Unit Requests: Chinese Flavor Units

In an attempt to create greater diversity among the various civs I would like to request a line of flavor units that can be used for the Chinese, Koreans and possibly the Mongols. The Japanese already have their own set of flavor units, and most of the original units are for the Euro civs with a few exceptions here and there.

Chinese Infantry: Musketman, Medieval Infantry, and Pikeman

It would be soooo cool if every civ had their own set of flavor units.

Or at least if the civs that were culturally similar had their own flavor units. Granted the Chinese and the Japanese are both lumped together in the Civ3 Asian Culture group, but their units would look dramatically different. Maybe not initially, but by the time they got into the Medieval Period the cultures would really start to distinguish themselves.

Similarly, the Germans, Russians, Celts, French and English could be lumped into one group during the Dark Ages to Medieval Period.

if someone would like to do some new versions of asian-only ships that would be great too. I just think that the ones I did way back when are no longer fit to accompany these new 3d units that everyone else is making. Its nice to see someone else thinking of the chinese, and to see that kal-el too thinks civ3 is too westernized. Civ3 is my favorite game, but my biggest complaint with it is how they made everything european.

oh they are not that bad atleast im using them. And i dont think a new junk or tongkang should be made first, they exist, not in very nice chape as Tva22 said, but atleast they exist.

TVA22,

You are too hard on your units. I think they are great. I wish you would make some more Asian units.

Ditto! The junk and tongkang are awesome units. A unit doesn't have to be fancy to be great. It just has to have that look, and those two units look great in-game. Very distinctive. One of my favorite animations is the very first one ever posted...s3d's assassin. Simple but cool. :goodjob:

TVA22,
Your Tongkang unit is, and will remain, my favourite unit. It's great! There is no need to replace your units, they are just as good as the 3-D units we are getting now.

How's this for a Chinese spearman... based off one of the pictures at the top. I think I have the palette work done (Red is civ specific), and the size may need to be slightly shorter. Then I also need to work out the placement and then the animations. No knowing if I'll really finish this one, I just sat down and started working out the model.

Kinboat, you rock! It took you like a day to make that. :)

@TVA, your units are awesome. Don't be so hard on them.

I always want some "true" Chinese units... IMHO the Rider unit is probably the most historical inaccurate unique unit in the game, it suits better as a unit for some nomad tribes. I think the Chinese should have some kind of crossbow units as their UU, since it is the Chinese who invented crossbow.

Well here's an image of a heavy crossbow, a replacement for the catapult maybe?

The images Kal-el has posted in his first post is very nice :goodjob:, but they are all from the early to middle Qing dynasty (~17th - 19th century)

Here's a pic of a terra cotta statue which is from the Qin dynasty (2nd century BC).
