OK I have created some (what I think are cool) Units and I am using MS paint, I pasted them into my existing .gif unit file, making sure the blue dots are ok for shield placement, and nothing is under the pink line on the bottom , but CIVII wont run ... even if I paste a unit that I didnt touch up.

Is it MS paint? Or am I missing something in my creation and/or editing?

Here is my spy unit, edited from a spy I got off the Great Icon Library.
And a herald.(Diplomat)

I tried 256 color .bmp, 24 bit .bmp, the units are invis in both those modes, but at least the game runs, hehe.

Any other ideas?
And did you play EQ? I knew a character named Kobayashi in that game tho they are probably a million of them !

ok any .gif's that I modify dont work ... the game wont run.

I tried downloading one of your units files and pasting over the .bmp ... game runs but units are still invisible.

All the .gif's I download work fine as long as I dont modify them.

Here is the .gif I want ... if anyone can get it to work and repost it it wouldnt hurt my feelings :)

Um how do I do that it doesnt appear to be under any of the drop down menu's in MS paint, and it isnt under the 'save as file of type' options.

If you could change that .gif above to non-interlaced, then repost it, that would be awesome:)

How does one match graphics in the units .gif to the unit in the pedia and rules file?

OK, one step at a time.

When you downloaded and used one of my units.bmp without changing anything, were the units invisible?

p.s. I assume you have started a new scenario and copied the file to the appropriate scenario folder. Your other question about the rules and pedia indicates that you may be fiddling with the default files in your civ directory which you shouldn't.

Lview Pro did the trick !! Woohoo!:D

This is probably a newbie question, but do the units correspond to the order that they are entered in the 'rules.txt' file?

Thanks Waku for the solution, and everyone else for your input. Kobayashi, your .bmp units were invisible, to answer your earlier question.:)

I am going to go play now, hehe.

This is probably a newbie question, but do the units correspond to the order that they are entered in the 'rules.txt' file?

Yes, they do.

If you want to alter unit descriptions in Describe.txt file then it is more tricky because they are not in the same order as in rules.txt. But it is well described inside the file.

For adding descriptions of extra units first write the descriptions and then change these -1 numbers to correct ones (52-61 when extra descriptions are at the end).

If you are making scenario then create scenario folder and place all modified files there.
But if you are making modpack (classic game with new rules etc) then you have to place modified files to the main folder. Only don't forget to make backup copies of the original files!
