I am rather of the Edgar Rice Burruoghs,H.G Wells,Jules Verne and Robert Louis Stevenson vein. I would like to see Tarzan and John Carter of Mars. And it would be cool to see some Barsoomians,Klingons,Planet of the Apes apes,Permian and Triassic beasts(some of them were really wicked such as the dimetrodons, gorgonopsians and those dinosaur-like predatory thecodonts) and some prehistoric mammals. Also those giant elephants from Lord of the Rings would be awesome in a game. Female giants would be cool too-especilly an advanced one armed with a big nasty gun. next year i hope to learn how to make units, but i really hope that some proficient creators will perhaps see some merit in making some these of units. !almost forgot-Steampunk units- we need Steampunk units! I am a cartoonist and an illustrator, but I am not sure that I have the patience for unit creation-I hear that it is a true pain in thine royal arse.

It's oliphants.

I think a lot of the stuff that you mentioned might put the game a bit out of the perspective of reality, although you can create units if you're crafty enough.

true. at heart i am nuts and bolts kind of guy-panzers and stuff. i however like to occasionally kill the odd monster or two. you are right that reality is the meat of Civ. some history teachers even use Civ in their curriculum to get their students to love history. correct.oliphants. if you are into elephants there is a race of huge atavistic mammoth-like Indian Elephants in Nepal.Discovery Channel did a show on them years ago.The scientists thought that they might be mammoths or even stegodonts-but they did DNA analysis on them and they turned out to be unique and unusual Indian elephants.Isolaton had allowed archaic traits to be expressed. i'm thinking of doing Chelsea Quinn Yabro's False Dawn as a project. but ir would require some generic bikers on Harleys and on foot(armed with guns or crossbows),generic armed farmers and generic armed townspeople. The units would have to include both male and female troops since both sexes figure largely in the book. CIV generally needs more regular folks type units in my opinion.

I would like to see more real-life specialized units like anti-air or anti-tank infantry.

They could be regular infantry except upgraded (at a cost of course) to improve their attack and defense against tanks for anti-tank and provide some defense against air units for anti-air.

Another option could be light infantry which would have similar stats to infantry but have increased movement.

Some others I can think of:

Mounted scout with 3 movement
Recon plane - tough to intercept but not attack or bombard ability
Attack helicopter - similar to artillery but with higher probability of inflicting damage. Not sure about level of damage relative to arty.

You just partially described the combat process for Civ4.

1. for mounted scout, you just described the explorer
2. recon missions cannot be intercepted, at least in vanilla
3. available in Civ4, although yes I believe they should be available in Civ3, possibly for attacks against units only over a fairly limited range (maybe out to 5 squares), although able to base on any improved land tile or aircraft carrier and still interceptable. Lethal bombard, of course.

My intention with the mounted scout was that it would be available with horseback riding.

Didn't know recon missions were non-interceptable - thanks for the info.

This was mentioned in another thread, so I can't take the credit but I'd also love to see a troop transport to move things like arty and infantry.

I agree with chrisman1 ^^. But of course I'd LOVE to see carthaginian war ships and WAR ELEPHANTS! (Not Indian war elephants. African elephants and indian elephants are different)
