Two turns in a row, my melee unit was unable to attack another melee unit within an adjacent hex. My sword is in a city, with a warrior in the tile to the west. My sword does not have to move out of the city to attack, since he is RIGHT NEXT TO the warrior, yet every time I right-click, select attack and the warrior, or hit ctrl+a and the warrior, nothing happens. nothing. after these two turns my city is taken by the warrior, who was able to heal during the two turns I should have been able to attack in.

Why does this happen?? This is not the first time I've seen this, and it's not something I think is caused by any recent patch, since I've seen this issue arise since Civ5 vanilla.

WTH. seriously.

In case anyone wants any additional information, here are 3 saves from around the time this BS happened. Shortly thereafter I decided to ragequit, in light of the aforementioned BS.

This situation is caused by the presence of the Trireme in the city. It has to do with the 1UPT rule. If you move the Trireme, the Swordsman can attack.

But being two different unit types (Land and Water) they are allowed to occupy the same tile, why would this prevent them from attacking? BTW, this also affected the trireme I had in the city. Neither could attack a valid target.

Is this just a glaring flaw in the game code that they have not bothered to fix? :crazyeye:

Here's another thread with a similar situation. Not sure whether there's a consensus as to "bug" or "working as intended."
