I personally hate when enemys send great prophets and missionaries to your lands:mad: and you can't kill or capture them without declaring war:wallbash: I don't mind missionaries as much but great prophets:jesus: just piss me off mainly because they don't have that arritrion thing you should be able to capture missionaries and great prophets without declaring war:assimilate: they fix that and i will be a happy guy.:)

P.S Pretend the jesus smile is moses or another great prophet.;)

Me too, I started a lot of wars for enemy great prophets in my territory. I want a request againts AI for retreat them only if they refuse they'll be war.

A great prophet is a great person. Surely it SHOULD be a little annoying considering the cost required to get one.

I personally think it should have its movement increased from 2 to 3-4.

They aren't all that hard to get hold of. I tend not to have to wait long for one to appear if I am not spending faith on other things; if it is post-industrial era then they are relatively inexpensive, at least at the start.

It seems a bit much to be able to come in with no attrition at all and convert cities on a huge scale.

Nah, 2 movement is fine for realism's sake. The gospels are full of accounts of the disciples telling Jesus to hurry up because they can run twice as fast as he can.

*ahem* Anyways. My preferred change wouldn't be to nerf the units themselves, but rather to see offenses (or repeat offenses) offer casus belli to your civ. Civ II actually had that feature – if you caught someone stealing tech from you, you got a popup telling you that you now have just cause to go to war and you won't be diplomatically penalized. (A game which, by the way, is nearing 20 years of age and STILL does some things far better than current incarnations.) I don't think you should get a penalty-free DoW on the first offense, but letting the player demand they stop spreading religion, then letting them DoW without a diplo hit if the demand is ignored, seems fine to me. Same with other offenses like spying.

Yeah, this is really annoying. I think they should follow the rules for every other unit in the game and require an open borders treaty to be allowed into your land. That's the way it worked in Civ 4, and it made sense.

Parking an Inq in a town prevents the AI from trying to use their missionaries or greater prophets on the town.

So no need for all that complaining the game mechanics favors players as AI's can't park Inq's.

Can somebody confirm this?

Can somebody confirm this?

It's in the civilopedia and some people have confirmed it, but I believe it's not always working because other people have denied it as well.

But for a wider empire, is it really feasible to buy that many inquisitors? Probably not.

Except the AI is playing nice and just goes after your holy city.

So you just need one Inq.

I can confirm Inquisitors worked in a recent game for me. Dido was trying to convert my people and we spent several turns trying to outmaneuver each other, her with her Great Prophet and me with Inquisitor moving from city to city as she approached.

She gave up pretty quickly fortunately as Ethiopia converted her capital, and sent her Great Prophet back overseas to reconvert it.

In civ2 you could attack a diplomat without declaring war. I think it said they're deported. They could bring that back, but the inquisitor works too. Or they could have inquisitors be able to attack missionaries without declaring war.

I never even knew that. Pity some of the features that weren't carried over game-to-game.

This would essentially make GPs useless for converting if you could attack them upon entry without war. Maybe do like the AI does... add a "stop converting my people" option that the AI may either heed or ignore. If they ignore it, they automatically declare war on you by doing so and THEY get the warmonger penalty for doing so.

I can confirm that positioning inquisitors works - moreover, you can tell the other leaders to stop converting your people (it's a little confusing as it's under discuss-> stop spying on me).

If the AI civ wasn't up for conflict anyway, they'll agree and withdraw their missionary. It actually worked pretty well for me.

Stop spying on me? How do you do that? Does it just automatically know you mean converting or does it open another menu? And what do you do if espionage hasn't started yet?

I've seen 'stop spying on us' option but not 'stop converting our people' discuss tab. Am I missing something ?

I agree, I was really annoyed when I found out that missionaries could cross my borders and there was NOTHING I could do to stop them besides declaring war.

So, declare war I did. Siam regretted trying to spread their heathen religion to my lands!

But I wish there had been a more diplomatic solution, like expelling their missionary. (I could deal with a diplo penalty for this, it would make sense.)
