I'm looking for Squid units. Has anyone seen any or have some they've made on their harddrive? Most of the stuff I've seen are Octopus graphics, though if you have that, I could try to mess around with them.

In reply to Temurlengs request Ive just had a go at making a squid unit.

Thanks, Joeb! Lot better than I've done!

Hey, Lozzy- I know somewhere here you asked for storms, but can't seem to find it. So here are some I found from Harlan Thompson's Ancient and Medieval-Styled Units.

I use MS paint actually, to do the dirty job such as the actual painting, and PSP 8 to do the effects. The secret is having a good source picture to look at while drawing. Lots of zooming in and out. Look at others' units. Zoom in on them and see how they are done. Pixel by pixel. Try to add their technique to your own units. Basically it's about trying and trying over again. Took me many crap units until I got an idea on how to handle graphics. And I think your units are on the right path, Elite Guard ! Looking good :)

Right.
And I'm sure somebody else has figured this out, but it can be very useful to have a small palette of the colours that the civ2 gif format accepts by your side.
That way you can use the "pick colour" function of MS Paint to get the right variations in colour and then you can be sure that these colours are acceptable to the program.
Furthermore, if you just use other units to get the colours from, you will lose the opportunity to use tones that the creator of the source unit has chosen not to use.
So if you use a palette of the right colours, you can get just the right end result and that perfect nemonesque or fairline look.

I've attached the palette I've been using. By its side is my signature because I usually just copy-n-pasted it into my units.

If you use a more sophisticated paint program like PSP you can load the civ palette into your units file (which it should already have in it if it's taken from the original units file or one made properly) and then select colours from the palette at will. As an alternative for use with MSPaint then Insurgent's idea is neat.

People should keep in mind that you can use Civ3 units in Civ2 (and there are A LOT of them).

Here's how:

- DL FLICster
- Using FLICster, convert the unit frames into pcx format
- Open the pcx in PSP and save them as bitmaps or in gif format
- copy the frame that you want
- open your Civ2 scenario unit.gif/bmp file
- paste the frame into the units.gif file
- resize it so that it fits into the unit slot

It won't look as good as it does in Civ3 but it will look just as good as any unit you will find in a Civ2 mod.

You can also use Civ3 animations in ToT:

- same as above (keep the file with all the frames open)
- Export a ToT unit sprite using CivSprite (each frame is seperate file)
- open each file and transfer the images from the CIv3 frames to the ToT ones

Unfortunately, since the number of frames in ToT can't be defined, you're better off creating a new Civ3 flc file by cutting out certain frames to match the number of ToT frames converting it back to flc format so you can use FLICster to see the full animation then, once you're happy with the result, transferring the last coverted Civ3 frames to the ToT sprite frames. (Simple huh?)

There is one upside and that is that the ToT units mirror themselves when travelling in an opposite direction, so this means that you only have to do 5 directions (N,NE,E,SE,S) instead of all 8 (N,NE,E,SE,S,SW,W,NW).

I may post an example later...once I actually complete a full sprite (i.e. all directions for each action).

Has anyone seen two hominids crouching in front of a fire?
Also, has anyone seen a deep sea angler for terrain squares? Here's a website, if someone doesn't know what that is (hey, I didn't): http://www.seasky.org/monsters/sea7a1m.html (also, makes for interesting reading on a different method of procreation)
Finally, if anyone has any more squids, I'd love to see them. Looks like I might need at least 10 more.

I have. Thier names are Bush and Kerry. ;)

(Sorry, I couldn't resist.)

Just wondering if anyone has any graphics of predators?? (predators like in the movies; predator, predator II, alien vs. predator)
