I've been working on this Mech, on and off, for a while. I'm not really happy with the paint job (maybe someone can point me to info on getting camo on units?) But my main issue: How do you think the top armament looks? (now that I'm looking at it, I'll probably try to find one of the other versions of this I have: some are brighter)

Its a MAC II :D Apart from the color (which was brownish) it looks very well! :)
Can you post anything else you worked with?

This looks very good, I like how you have managed to colour the mech with the gun battery at the top with only green colours. Well done! :) You have more mech/alien-type units units?

@ Gelion: I actually had a Mac, so I know exactly what you're talking about. Thanks for the compliment. I've been staring at it for so long, I actually convince myself from time to time that it's not good at all and I'd have to start all over again. I'm scrounging through my hard drive, actually organizing the stuff I have. I've been trying to make certain the ones I provide are at least decent or ok, but who knows, maybe someone will find a part of a unit I've done useful, or will be inspired to make the same unit better than I possibly could.

@ CapTVK- Thank you, Captain. Paint Shop Pro, even though my version's an older one, has helped me a number of times. As long as you make certain it doesn't color units in non-Civ colors, it helps alot. I have some more mechs that I'm saving for my scenario- that unfortunately got sidetracked when I left my notebook, with all my notes and the tech tree, on the train on the way from work. Have to reconstruct the whole thing from memory.

Oh, and I have another thing I wanted an opinion on. I made this Thursday night/Friday morning, after having had no sleep. Now that I'm at least a little conscious, I no longer think it's as spectacular as I had thought. So, I'm looking for someone's opinion on this. And, if you can't figure out what the [expletive] it is, tell me that too.

PSP, a favorite tool for any Civ fan :)

Ouch, that smarts! The laptop didn't end up at Lost&found by any chance and did you have any backups?

I made this Thursday night/Friday morning...

To be honest I had trouble recognizing this figure. It's rather ambiguous. At first I thought it was a woman holding a baby in her arms but that doesn't fit the pose. After looking at it closeup it appears to be some sort of gun?

Actually, it was only a pad of paper, not a laptop. I can't imagine what I would do if I lost a laptop.

You were right the first time. I'll try to post the original Hardjoy image, but it was a woman walking with two kids while she played a flute. The idea was she was walking along while caring for the baby in her arms. Might need some work...

And, these are some of my mechs, as requested. I've given a brief background, cause I think some are so unclear, you'll have no clue what I was trying to do.

Look away to protect your eyes!

1st Row- I took the body of the vehicle from a unit I found in Bebro's SubWar scenario, the legs from a unit by Alberto Birardi. I basically was trying to make an artillery-type mech with insect-like legs and limited self-defense. The horizontal and vertical glow-bands would be phaser-arrays, a la Star Trek. They would perform the same role as machine guns on modern-day tanks: anti-personnel and anti-aircraft. I came up with two versions of missile packs, which would provide the long-range punch.
But what I don't like about any of them is that the orientation of the legs on the one hand and the body on the other don't match. So, I took off the legs entirely. Then I eliminated the vertical glow-band, and considered the horizontal one a hover mechanism. It kinda looks like a half-submerged robotic hippo, though.

2nd- The second unit, I took a helo by Techumseh/Fairline (Vendetta scenario) and legs from a mech for Civ-Evolution. After some editing, I came up with the two versions.

3rd- I tried putting a helo from Beachhead together with a Mech from Chris Varlo's Sci-Fi Collection. The first unit is the closest I got to something looking good. After, I put two pairs of blades on (one by Fairline, the other by SOR), played with it a little more, and got a helo packing some serious heat- or at least, that's what it looks like to me sometimes.

cool :D
lalallalallalallalala: had to make the post longer so it would let me submit it, :p

Wow! amazing units  ! ive started to try at making units, but mine always look so plain and dull, or dont look at all what i intend them to be. :( could someone please give me some tips on how to create realistic units, and some tips on how to make fantasy/sci-fi/imaginary units. It would really be a help

The basic advice is study the units of some of the well known Civ2 artists. see how the design is laid out and practice, practice, practice. You could try upgrading some old units.

Here's one I did from the Freeciv set for example.

If you want to try my method, see the Graphics Workshop thread over at Apolyton. It's done using PSP 8.10, but it should be suitable for any graphics editor that supports layers. Basically I draw/edit the structure as a greyscale image before applying colours in different layers using the Airbrush, Paintbrush and various other Retouch brushes. I adjust the opacity of the layers and/or brushes as required.

Actually, I'd disregard the Civ2 palette until the final stage of development. Work in 24-bit colour and then load the palette when you're done. You can clean up any unsightly bits afterwards. BTW, that mech you posted doesn't use standard Civ2 colours.

Answered in the Beginners thread, ie, I provided a link to the Graphics Workshop thread.

WOW! just looking through the last few pages makes me jealous.... it would be VERY sweet if I (everyone) could get all these many units in one or more downloads...KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!
 :goodjob:  :worship:  :hatsoff:

Wow. Alot on nice works been done while I was away.
BTW Temerleng was one of those walkers you did based of an AT-PT from Star Wars Glalactic Battlegrounds.

I didn't understand about "unique signature"...
And whether my units will go to downloads. ;)
BTW Pokemon units are being prepared!
300++!!!
see the "tl" on tamerlungs units, or the styleised "be" on my units? thats the siggnature, so that people can have an idea who made it, some do their names for a sig, others do just 1 letter or their initials and some put an icon for their sigs, ;)
for example the t-44's at the top of the page has a "be" sig, which is my sig, a "GB" which is fairline, and a fish, which is catfish, basicly beacause i made it from two fairline units that were couloured by catfish, :mischief:
