Unofficial BTS 3.13 patch

most of the mods are "unfinished".. since the authoirs are still working on them.

overlord includes the unoficial bhruic's patch, and the error i get points to cvgamecoredll.dll.. thats why i posted here..

im also curious how can you be so sure that the ctd i get has nothing to do with the patch ?

Because the patch does not seem to cause this kind of problem without the mod.

In any case - the place to look for support / report problems with a mod is allways the developer of the mod.

Simple logic. You claimed you get a crash when savegames are over 1MB in size. I have a current game with a save over that amount, running Bhruic's patch, and am not seeing any crash. Hence, it's not Bhruic's patch that is causing your problem.

Either it's the mod you are using, or something else with your game or machine.

The fact that You dont get this CTD doesnt mean that its not this patch releated.

I felt that i needed to report this in this thread, and so i did..

which is fine - but did you also report it in the thread for the mod? the fact that they included a .dll instead of just letting people decide whether to use the unofficial mod or not is a strong indicator that they made additional changes to the .dll - so its at least equally possible that their changes cause the crash. Also a corrupted save would be a good addition to such a bug report...
Though the fact that the only report showing this crash uses a modified version of this patch makes it more likely that the modification is a problem and not so much this file...

.... the short answer is simply that I had a very busy pre+ holiday season, then promptly came down with a nasty flu right afterwords. I'm just now recovering.

Actually, it means exactly that. You proposed a theory which stated that Bhruic's patch causes CTD when savegames get bigger than 1MB. There's an easy way to disprove it. I ran the test with a 1.1+ MB savegame, and did not get a crash. Hence, your theory is false. Q.E.D.

I fail to understand how you can still claim Bhruic is to blame for your crashes. Perhaps there's something that is contributing to it, but it clearly is not the sole cause of a crash in savegames bigger than 1MB. I already disproved that.

I suspect your mod is junk, or perhaps your hardware is borderline. Or maybe your savegame got corrupted for some other reason, and now your current game is broken.

Let's move away from this CTD nonsense and focus on when Bhruic's new update will come, and more importantly what it's going to include?!? Here's some thoughts:

1. AI using privateers.
2. AI blockading ports (more than they currently do that is).
3. smacfan's fix for the demographics screen.

Of course these are highly contentious and probably won't make it. ;)

Anyone else?

I've seen the AI use privateers in the past. Not very often, but it's definitely happened. I agree that nothing lights a fire under a player to build a navy quite like a horde of AI ships blockading the coast. So the AI could probably stand to use the "PIRATE_SEA" logic a little more, (especially when it's not doing an amphibious attack,) which includes pillaging and blockading, versus "ATTACK_SEA" which appears to be focused more on ship-to-ship combat....

Have you ever had a problem with MAF in WARLORDS ?

It crashed the game in a simliar manner (the savefile larger then some size (dont really remember what was it) ). Some ppl had problem with MAF some didnt. It depended on many factors (comp specs, operating system etc.. )

And im not blaiming Bhruic by any means, but since the CTD points to his .dll i thought i let him know..

Oh and i really dont know why am i trying to exuse myself for posting here..

No more "CTD nonsense", from me..

P.S. Iim glad that your civ works fine DrJambo, and i hope it stays this way..

Question - if a game is created without this updated dll, and is then loaded WITH the dll in place, will the game play correctly, and as if it had been created with the dll in the first place?

Yes, it seems to handle that fine.

@Bhruic - you might want to check this one out for your unofficial patch:

On some occasions my spies appear to be unable to sabotage buildings in a city. The option to sabotage a building just does not exist! Why?

A poster called Trojan Sheep hinted in the readme file for his SuperSpy mod that this is a bug and related to the monument building...

Anyone confirm?

Can this patch be loaded with mods? If I wanted to play the next war Mod, or Rhye's and Fall, or something similar would this patch work? The answer to this might answer my next question as well. If I have this patch installed and want to play in a HOF game how would that work?

Thanks everyone!

Can't answer the first part, but the HOF mod includes this patch so for HOF you should be playing with the original 3.13 dll

If the mod does not include a modified DLL, you can use this one.

Otherwise you cant.

Well it does include version 1.09 - so not all of the fixes in here...
If you want to use it and play for the HOF you need to install this patch as a mod (e.g. use grumbler's installer linked a couple posts up) - since the HOF-Mod will give changed assets warnings if Bhruic's patch is installed into the core game files.
As Refar noted - it will not work with mods that come with their own .dll, this includes Rhye's and Fall for sure and I believe also Next War...

Ok, so what I'm hearing is that this patch should be used as more of a mod for the base BtS, and not as a patch, since I do play a lot of games with other mods that probably wouldn't play well if I changed the core files.

Thanks!

This was already reported by this poster himself in post 1614.
