upgrade elite warrior, not elite anymore?

I started a game playing the Persians (randomly got them .. always do random .. first time getting them, they rock) and it wasn't long before my war hungry personality wanted to put these immortals to the test (already wiped out America, working on Babylon).

I had an elite warrior. Upgraded him. Poof, he was veteran. Bug or is it just the way it is?

Dang them early golden ages...

i'm not possitive, but i'm pretty sure that when you upgrade a unit, you always lose your elite status

Yes, that's the way it is.

Dang. Never noticed it before. So much for me upgrading elite units. I'll keep them elite puppies around to kill somebody injured and hope for a leader.

Be sure to move them out of town before you use shift-U to upgrade all units. I've been pretty bummed when I accidentally upgrade my elites...
