upgrade unit from ruins

Mate of mine went Lancer > Anti-tank once. Can't imagine what sort of long-dead culture it was that she found, or what killed them off...

Imagine that the "spear" the warriors found are actually part of an advanced weapon.
You can think that the Civ world will flooded in biblical fashion when a player delete his save and then another player resettle it.

I've found machine guns lying around in the late industrial/early modern era, I've found a gatling gun once in the early renaissance, I've even had a Calvary to Landship upgrade happen.

Those advanced civilizations leave so much stuff lying around...

I had the cavalry upgrade to landship once but it was disappointing: landship is at half strength without oil.

Using the “new world” script (I forget the name) with Spain I had three or four conquistadors upgrade to cavalry. That was kind of cool, and not too rare since the “new world” will have lots of ruins. Unfortunately, they were too spread out to make any real difference for warmongering.

I'm surprised this thread made it all the way to the second page without anyone mentioning the Hun's starting Warrior -> Battering Ram scenario. That'll set you up for a nice little early empire after conquering a few CS's and/or AI capitals.

If you bring it safely to battle without losing it to brutes since it can't defend itself from brutes then yes.

When I'm in the exploring map phase, I don't care for the -1 visibility at all.

When a hut converts your warrior to a battering ram, that's the game's way of saying "You're no longer in the Exploring Map phase. You're now in the Conquer Your Nearest Neighbor phase." Now hop to it!
