On another site I read something which claimed that in early 1942 Stalin proposed US troops under US command on the Eastern Front to Roosevelt. I googled this and was unable to come up with anything.

Does this seem as farfetched to everyone else as it does to me?

I can't remember 100%, but there might have been US pilots under soviet command on the eastern front.

Stalin was constantly trying to get the US and Britain to do more to help the USSR, so it wouldn't surprise me if the idea came up at some point. Clearly not much came of it.

The Western front was a 'gentlemen's War' picnic compared to the Eastern front. I'd consider mutiny if Roosevelt wanted to send my unit there.

Yes, I've read that too.

At that point, Stalin was desperate for help, otherwise he would never have countenanced capitalist troops under foreign command on Russian soil.

OTOH, the US in early 42 was in no condition to send him troops, they had enough on their plate already and were still struggling to get on a war footing - this was only a few months after Pearl Harbor, after all!
