I have read that you can tell whether a particular elite has created a leader by a * next to it.......I play vanilla and cant see this star anywhere.not above the unit , not in the military advisor , not when you right click on the unit.......I`m going insane cause I got 22 elite cav running amock right now and suffrage is up for grabs......Begging for some help

The * is seen in front of the unit's name in the box in the bottom right hand corner of the screen. It can also be seen (I think) if you right click on a stack of units.

You must have vanilla or PTW. In Conquests a Military Great Leader cannot rush a Wonder (though a Scientific Great Leader can).

Gratious, Unaskedfor Advice
Once I get railroads, I tend to keep all my elites stacked around the capital, so I can find them quickly when I go leader hunting. The units that have created a MGL I tend to use for crowd control in freshly captured cities.

good onya commando for the quick reply,

I`ll check again tonight but i could swear I`ve checked the bottom right hand corner and nothing....other alternative is use your "used" elites to load your armies

It was a long time ago, but that featyre may have come in a patch or PTW. Check that you are on 1.29f.

cheers vmxa , since my total knowledge of computers consists of "insert civ3 , press big button " i`ll have to work this one out.

Automated , How do you re name units please?

I'm not AutomatedTeller, but I'll try to answer.

If you mean renaming your used "elites"...When they create a leader, you will get a pop-up box that says, "Would you like to rename this victorious unit?", and you type it's name in the pop-up box. You can name it something fancy like General Warrior Killer or something simple like Leader #1, but it should be something you'll recognize as a used elite.

All other units can be renamed at any time by clicking on one of the unit command buttons at the bottom of your screen (at least in Conquests, but not sure about vanilla). It has to be done BEFORE its movement points are all used up. This will also bring up a pop-up box for naming. :)

thanks heaps for every ones help..........the more time i spend on this forum the more i realise i simply gotta buy the expansions.if only to avoid asking all these questions (and I`m absolutely dying to upgrade 25 horses to riders...surely unstoppable)

When you load the game it shows the patch level in the lower left corner. The last patch for C3 is 1.29f, do apply it. Note that you will want to finish and ongoing games as some patch levels are not compatible.

As an aside I do not think vanilla has the rename function.

It does, but only when a unit creates an MGL.

The best thing to do with a MGL is build an army.
Not always, since as usual, it depends. In vanilla and PTW MGL's can rush world wonders, which is a benefit of up to 1000 shields immediately. That's often worthwhile considering that after your first army, subsequent ones can just be built from the military academy.

But they cost an irrational amount of shields, and even in the later ages with high production, turn times are so long that it still feels like an eternity.

Just had a scan of this thread - quite interesting. I did not realise that an elite unit could only produce a GL once - worth knowing. Always wondered why you got the option to rename "this victorious unit"! Now I know - it is so you can keep track of the "used elites", is that correct?
