Maybe someone can help me with a detailed step by step solution.

I have recent installed Civ3 on my laptop. The game works fine but the picture is squashed and when I alt tab to the desktop the image is fuzzy and enlarged and the right hand of the desktop screen has been lost.

I guess this is a resolution problem and have tried to read other threads on the topic but I do not understand how to rectify the issue.

Any help / advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Have you already tried adding the line

keepres=1

to the civ3.ini file (or PTW or conquests .ini file)?

This will force the game to use the native resolution of your laptop screen. At first it may make the game seem a bit small, but you'll get used to it.

The .ini file for whatever version you're running will be in the directory you installed to (you can navigate there by right-clicking on the shortcut on the start menu [or desktop] and choosing "properties". In the properties, choose "find target")

You can open the .ini file with Notepad and simply type "keepres=1" as a new line at the end of the file (in fact it doesn't really matter where you add it).

Is the .ini file a long list of written text? I assume I just add another line is this correct?
If I play both PTW and C3C do I have to enter this line in both .ini files?

Thanks,

Edit, Thanks Bartleby, working fine now.
