Utter disappointment

I've just gotten about halfway through my first game. Keep in mind, I'm playing on Warlord to get a feel for the game before I jump into the higher levels. I don't think the game is as bad as a lot of the other posters, but it's not good enough to totally replace IV either. The two things I don't like are that production is so slow, and a lot of the strategy is gone because of that. Basically all I have done for city management so far is connect my resources and build roads. I haven't really built any buildings at all, save a barracks and a couple of libraries. I mainly just crank out units and workers. (I say "crank out" in a relative sense. I have about 8 units and I'm the strongest civ in the world). It might not be that bad if it weren't for the fact that since this is so out of character for CIV, I can't really gauge my progress.

On the flip side, I do like the combat. The range attack is lethal. So far, I have just had a couple of archers range cities, and let my foot soldiers move in for the kill. It might not be so easy when I move up, but we will see. I guess it's going to be a matter of giving the game time to grow on me and learning all the tricks before it really becomes a homerun for me.

This game is an absolutely awesome and I can't believe I only shelled out $49.99 for it. I want to give Firaxis more money and I want my Civ 4 forgotten. It's not that this game is awful. It's Stunning... JUST AMAZING, but when it's supposed to be a sequel to Civ 4 then there's a VERY high bar that was surpassed.

Let's face it... A ton was added to this game. It's a distillation of all the Civ 4 concepts and it feels like Civ 4 For Super Adults. What exactly is new here? You can move in Awesome directions; you can't stack Finally; you can't build as many units because you can't stack which is super awesome ; they removed the mostly obtrusive and unnatural religion. Oh, and they added the complexity of city states. The city states just end up beingincredibly useful to strategy ...if people can eventually figure it out.

The Great Wonders? Wonderful... actually pretty exciting with interesting overall gameplay effect. The interface is Just OK to manage all the numbers and metrics with your civ . Really though... all the numbers and readouts are part of, but not entirely, what makes Civ great and they still exist!! There's so MUCH thought and strategy needed to play this. Every unit is it's own incredibly weak transport, Making Naval invasions so much more possible.

There's no unrealistic sliders to shift funds from the treasury to research. Expansion simply causes unhappiness, which is not so easily fixed and it slows down your social progress... So maybe super expansion isn't the best strategy!

What a Triumph! An utter Triumph. I've been waiting 5 years for this! Civ For Super Adults? Finally!

Just my opinion though.

The point of confirmation bias is "only" focusing on information that confirms your initial claim while "ignoring" information that doesn't. It's the main reason people believe in ghosts, bigfoot and UFO's.

(ie things that aren't really there).

Same as this thread.

Not to mention the whole tone of your post was confrontational to begin with.

By the way I mostly disagree with every point you made, but based on the fact that you've entrenched yourself there's really no point in arguing.

I mean, let's be honest, this post wasn't meant to discuss anyway. You started it to put people in there place about how you feel about the game.

Same could be said about your opinion. You are ignoring criticisms, however legitimate, because you want to feel good about your purchase. It's a common phenomenon. This is why people vigorously defended the iPhone, even though it was buggy on release and there are far better smart phones out there

Right because sequels are always as good or better than the original  . Have you ever watched movies before? Sequels to anything are rarely as good or better than the predecessor. That said Civ V isn't a sequel to Civ IV. Technically it's an addition to the series and like all the previous Civ's it's not supposed to be the same game as it's predecessor. Just similar. Civ IV wasn't the original civ. The only thing that can be a sequel to Civ IV is a Civ IV expansion pack. No one called civ V a sequel to civ IV

Sorry man, but this is where I stopped, so Civ IV wasn't better than all the others (with the exception of Alpha Centauri) and Civ V isn't the sequel of Civ IV ??

O RLY ?

Or the same reason people slam the iphone? :) it's circular.

And honestly I was just pointing it out I really hadn't claimed an opinion at the time.

But if you must know Every opinion I have is almost always thoroughly researched (IE there is no bigfoot, ghosts, UFO's) and I try to make it empirical and can at least articulate it point by point. I also very rarely make blanket statements and treat them as fact.

Very few people are doing that with the problems they have Like I said this post was only started for the "LOOK AT HOW MUCH I HATE THIS" vibe without making any clear delineation as to the points the OP has problems with.

It in no way left room for counterpoint and he treats his opinion as if an opinion is a magical thing that can't be wrong.... err*BUZZ* opinions can and in fact often are incredibly wrong.

So where is this "legitimate criticism" in this thread? I re-read the OP and could not find any. What exactly is console-like for example in the interface? What information are you looking for but can't find and why is this information important? In what way, specifically, could the interface be improved? What did sliders really add to Civ IV and how would they improve Civ V?

For me it sounds like typical ranting, sorry. It's also the reason why most people ranting here are notably absent from the Suggestions forum.
