Chieftain
Hi everybody,
I made UU tables as part of a compilation of historically based 3rd UU suggestions for all CIVS (but 1!), I include suggested stats and abilities for your consideration. This is with the intention of creating starting point if in the future a 3rd UU is considered like something worth adding to this awesome mod.
I think there are potential benefits of adding a 3rd UU. First, it can help to further refine and develop the already present military philosophies, (i.e. Land based, seafaring, mobility, defensive, siege, combined arms, etc.), with that in mind, some units in this list are complementary (or in some cases antagonistic) of the already existing contemporary UU. Others, particularly those that directly upgrade, are intended to mimic the development and commitment of an army to a particular philosophy.
A third UU can also help to balance the issue discussed on a previous thread where some UU have a short lifespan before becoming obsolete while others live for a long time. A 3rd UU can help in 2 ways; first spreading more evenly the lifespan of UU between civs, or by creating a short lived but powerful peaks with 2 or more active UU. I tried to complement this by giving short lived units (i.e. Musketman, Swordsman) free promotions, so the promotions pass to the next upgrade, but for long lived units (i.e. Heavy footman) I tried to use abilities or bonus that won’t pass to the next upgrade.
Some of the units here were taken from the 2nd UU thread, but I focused mostly on the CIVS that had less suggestions on that thread. On creating the current list I followed the same general rules used on the development of the 2nd UU thread which were:
-NO air UUs
-NO economic bonuses
-NO Settler/Worker UU (but 1 potential worker exception)
-Scout/Explorer UUs were last resort (3 cases)
Additionally I followed these general rules:
- Used mostly existing abilities and promotions (But there are some exceptions).
-When 2 options were available I went for the most modern one and/or the less crowded one (i.e. Anti tank over Heavy horseman)
-Must be historically based. I added bibliographical references for most of the suggested units.
I am certain that in both promotion stacking and general balance were things that I didn’t consider and therefore I am certain there is much room for improvement. Some units may need to be beefed up, some other toned down, and some changed altogether. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find anything new on the Kongo military, the only CIV missing on the list, I saw the Ivory swordsman suggestion on the thread, but couldn't find any reference for it. If you have any good sources please let me know!
Its my hope that these suggestions are useful at some point or the other, if a third unit ever becomes under consideration. Overall hope you have fun reading it, as certainly I did researching and writing it!. I made the tables with all UU for easy reference. I apologize in advance for any typos, mistakes and omissions, feel free to improve it if you notice any. For the sake of brevity I didn’t include in the tables skills that are default for a whole class, unless relevant for a particular unit. (i.e. we all know mounted units don’t get defensive bonus).
The units in each CIV table appear in chronological order. Bolds within the table are the advantages the UU has over the regular unit.
In Blue is the suggestion for a 3rd UU, and at the bottom the source for such unit, and some notes and comments
Thanks for reading and please let me know if you have any comments or questions, And again thanks for this awesome mod!! Regards!

The following page gives a brief description based on a book, but I don’t have access to it.
https://tibettalk.wordpress.com/2007/06/14/tibetan-warriors/
I took the name from:
http://www.moddb.com/mods/all-under-heaven/images/rtakhrab-paidpungpa#imagebox
Regards!
