I Demand Kyouyouyouto, If You Don't Rename It Like That I Am Disgusted By That So-called "mod" And Am Leaving The Forum!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111!!!!11111!!!!

Edit: Whoa, the forum software didn't allow me to post it in all caps?!

Hey, I never said I was going to leave this forum. I just said I was going to stop playing RFC for now--about time anyway since I've wasted too much time on it anyway, and I just bought some Wii games which will probably absorb the next several weeks of my life. Maybe the "faults" I see right now (impossible UHVs, too many barbs and no squatting) will have been "corrected" after I kill every last zombie in Resident Evil 4.

You probably missed the very weird new name of Osaka! Try founding a city in 114,44

Well, I just founded Osaka in it's right spot, and it gave the correct Oosaka. Nothing weird there. Is 114,44 somewhere else? How do you find out tile coordinates anyway?

Cheers, Luke (currently residing in Osaka).

Which reminds me, Fukuoka shouldn't start out that way. That's the modern name; adopted about a hundred years ago IIRC (by popular vote; majority of 1). If you take a JR train to the place you will be bound for Hakata, since the station still bears the old name. Note the name of the bay the city is located on, and the Mongols landed it, is still Hakata bay as well. So I'd have it change with Industrialization.

Cheers, Luke

The balance has shifted a bit in favor of the Turks, probably because the Euros are less advanced when they spawn having the same techs as before. Maybe take Engineering from them? America is very behind, too. Because of the new spawn date, they should be given Corporation and Scientific Method.

Maybe Democracy too? It would help them construct SoL much faster that way.
By the way, do you get the stability drop if you adopt Universal Suffrage right at the start with Despotism as your Government civic? Could this be made an exception for the Americans? Or would Washington just adopt Representation instead?

The way it is now, it seems almost necessary to adopt Hereditary Rule. I'm sure it could be improved lots more some way.

Another way to solve America's backwardness is actually to make them spawn at the old date (1733) but take away certain techs that they really should not have historically (e.g. rifling was not fully in use until the mid 1800's, or chemistry which didn't really come of age until Lavoisier with the law of conservation of mass).

In fact, the British UU is a misnomer, since:

The redcoat was equipped with the 0.75 calibre Land Pattern Musket, or Brown Bess. He was the most thoroughly trained musketeer in history, the British army being the only one in the colonial era to train with live ammunition.

Hey Rhye, been a long time fan of RFC and a lurker for awhile but I had to register after playing the latest version. Its amazing, I love the new AI colonization, the longer classical age, tougher barbs, et al. So thank you for all the hard work you've put into this mod over the years, I started with CivI when I was a kid and this is the game I've been wanting to play since then.

In response to the comments and critiques for the new version:

I've only done Persia and Rome in the classical age so far and both are doable even with the improved Barbs. In fact I think the stronger Carthage makes the UHV that much easier, they build all your African cities for you and sometimes even colonize Spain letting you focus on conquest rather than colonization. But Rome UHV is definitely possible still, I only missed it by failing to colonize Britain, but then I wasn't going straight for the UHV as I conquered Greece and built a little into Asia minor. Wonders can still be built, I managed the Lighthouse Colossus and Coliseum.

Persia didn't go as well, but it wasn't an utter failure near on the first try. Was able to conquer Babylon early, vassalized India and conquered Egypt but the Barbs caught me off guard. Persia gets the worst of the new Barbs, they still have the usual influx coming from Central Asia, but now they get horse archers coming from the Caucasus and the horrible mid-east horde of camel archers. Flooded from all three sides it was all could do to hold them off whilst abandoning any plans for conquest. The only respite is when Arabia shows up, and that pretty much meant curtains anyway for Buddhist Persia.

So if there is one thing I think needs to change its the camel archer spawns. Its just a little bit too much to ask for Classical civs. There isn't anything that can stack up against them except for overwhelming force and even then its a losing battle. Furthermore if humans struggle with them what chance does the AI have? I haven't seen Jerusalem survive yet (though weirdly Egypt regularly tries to conquer it now).

All in all though I'm very happy with the new RFC.

When the Turks spawn in 600 AD, the area around Sogut isn't culturally blank (i.e. it's still Byzantine) making it impossible to attack Constantinople immediately with your siege weapons unless you found Sogut. This didn't use to be the case (the 3x3 square is orange only next turn).

I'm okay with that though, as previously Byzantium could be taken in three turns from spawn, and historically it was a big feat.

I think Byzantium should have a castle or a citadel prebuilt in the 600AD spawn, I'm not sure if it's like that already, but I always bugged me how easy it was to take from the independents.

it does already

 Germany hardly ever collapses now! Put it back, put it back! I liked actually having a productive city as the French! Though I like that it doesn't take all of the Balkans and Scandinavia now. Speaking of Scandinavia, the Vikings only build two cities now. They just can't get the number right.

I've noticed that they're much less expansionist now. I don't know how historical that is, considering Vikings in this game represent both the Swedish and the Norsemen, but they're not really on par with the rest of European empires anymore.
