Well, to start, I'm still CTD'ing with build 152, but it's much better, much more stable. :goodjob:

Anyway, my most recent CTD came with a new error message '...ran out of video memory...check game settings...'

No big deal. Can't set it lower than 'low'. But since it's the first time I got this message, I figure it's a new one written into v152 (the phrase 'game settings' doesn't sound like Windows). So, for any Friaxians out there: the error message works. :)

I'm confused though. When I play Civ4, it's the only thing going on. I don't want to tax my computer. Once Civ is loaded and I'm in game, shouldn't the video memory usage be relatively static? Why is it good 'now' but not good 'later'

In my attempt to have a stable game I have been forced to be more of an expert in this area then I have the right or the inclination. In my understanding what you are taxing is the video memory. As you discover more land and there are more units for all of the civs you are creating more video elements suchas pologons and triangles. The more there are the more memory they take up. I believe that is why (as for me) the further you get into a game the more chance of problems. Also the larger the map the more elements there are or will be. If this stops you from playing take a look in the utility section for harkonnen's fix. You would have to go back to the 1.09 patch but it did make the game playable for me.

Good gaming and happy new year to you.
