Van01 - A Newbie Hope

When we go to war, we should keep every city that has mature cottages around it. I.e, most of them.
 
Might be worth building a pike to add to the stack. We could be optimistic and add some garrison units and replacement trebs as they wear out. Half a dozen trebs and we should be good to go.

Any thoughts on detailed invasion plan for Russia? (i.e. which cities in which order). Do we want to ask Fred to join in?
 
Well for what it's worth, which isn't much. :)

The stack is near Yekaterinburg, so we could start there and move north up the coast. However I think I'd be more inclined to start at Yakutsk and move east from there to Moscow and head north east from there, then circle back on St. Petersburg.
 
I'm definitely not going to have the time to play now, so I request a skip.

After building a few pointy stick dudes, are settled on going to war this turn? I like the idea starting in the south and moving north through Cathy. This gives us the option of bringing Freddy in from the north side, causing a two front war for her.

On the IBT we take Collateral on 15 units, but our Maces kill 3 Cats

Turn 13 (1360)-Bombard with 3 Trebuchets to soften defenses, but still need to attack another turn to weaken their units

And it finally falls. I keep it for now if only for our men to have a place to heal up for a few turns. The only resource this city gives us is Incense which we will pick up in the russian core. I set it to build Research for now (its not building anything as its in revolt) and we can decide to keep it our not. I say dump it, its surrounded by plains. It does have a Monument, Granary, and a Courthouse.

I have one from 1380AD, I just threw up in my mouth a little bit last night when this all happened and didn't want to deal with it.

Does everyone agree with dumping Yaketerinburg? It also has 5 unworkable tiles in its fat cross. The only thing its really doing is cutting off Russias 2 junkie southern cities from her core? Let me know folks, and I'll finish this up tonight, maybe play another 8 or 13 turns.
 
I just had a revelation, you can't abandon a city in Civ IV. Ooops, maybe I should gift it over to on of our weaker opponents, or gift it back to Cathie, capture it again and raze it?
 
Don't bother with juggling the city. Just keep it.

We lose a Sword to a Cat in the same spot
We lose a Mace to a Cat (unbelievable), but a Num Cav cleans it up for us

Another Num Cav kills a Cat
Whip the Forge in Utica and Join the Great General

We lose 2 units, but we take out 4 more Russian units

We have an awful IBT as Russia throws her full force at us and we lose 7 units to her 2, our stack is down to the following:

It's definately time for a discussion here, but I think we are best off making peace. I've left it up to whomever is up next, its at the end of the turn.

The Save
 
Had a look at the save. We're not doing that badly despite the poor outcome of the latest battle. Peace treaty will give us and Cat time to recover; or we could try for a ceasefire to get our units healed up and reorganised. Muskets will defend fine against crossbows so that ain't a huge problem.

Ouch rotten luck there. :( But that's the way it goes some times.

Other then that it looks like a good turn set. :)
