I'm new to Civ in general played a little with Civ 3 and got Civ4 Gold and BtS for Christmas. I've been lurking a number of SG threads and would like to start a training SG, or at least one where I can ask lots of questions. :)

I'd like to have at least one experienced player if not more to help any newbies besides myself get a better feel for the game.

Game: BtS v3.13
Difficulty: Prince
Civ + Leader: Carthaginian/Hannibal
Map Type: Continents
Map Size: Large
Map Speed: Epic
Number of AI Civ's: 7
All other settings would be normal

Normal SG Ettiquette will apply:
- You have 24 hours to say that you have the save and can play your turns, and 48 hours after that to post the new save, along with your turn report. (Please post if you will not be around, so we can save time and automatically skip you.)
- Your turn report should be fairly detailed, and have pictures. It should not be a copy and paste of an auto-log.
- Don't automate anything!
- If you have to make a major game decision which has not been discussed, please consult with the group first.
- Use common sense.

I'm not sure what settings are best. I've only played a few games so far, but do have a good feel for how to play. I'm not sure what difficulty level to set it for, I can beat the game on Warlord but that's the highest I've tried so far.

Roster
1. Pigswill
2. Vanor
3. Splime
4. Dawn
5. glenmetz
6. stuge

I'll give this a go if you'll have me. I guess I'm fairly experienced (though there are a lot of better players than me on the forum).

No preferences at this point.

I guess you decide on difficulty level when you've got more people signed up and get an idea of the team's average experience.

lurker's comment: I think a good level for you would be Noble. Noble is when there are no advantages to you, or the AI.

i'd like to play but i'm busy with 4 sg's. sorry! next time hopefully.

Did you copy some of the etiquette from somewhere? :p

I'll give this a shot, and I am by no means experienced... However, I don't have this Bhuric patch... (If we must go with BUG, I'll install it, no big deal)

I'd think Noble or Prince would be good, because the discussion created by SGs makes the game a bit easier.

Why write when I can copy/paste what someone else wrote? ;) Yours said everything that I felt needed to be said. :)

Well you're more experienced then me I'm sure. :) So welcome to the game.

However, I don't have this Bhuric patch... (If we must go with BUG, I'll install it, no big deal)

BUG isn't a big deal really I think I can just remove it by renaming the folder no? Same for the Bhuric patch, that I know I can remove quickly and easy.

I'd like it if Pigswill or one of the more experienced players starts the game, if for no other reason then I can ask all kinds of questions about why they did what they did. :)

For turns, 30 to start, 15 in peace and 10 in war is standard right?

Sounds like a good game. I'm currently in Splime's SG, but would like to join up on this one if you'll have me.

Sure thing, I couldn't say no to someone with a Linsner avatar. :)

How about this for the settings?

Civ/Leader: America - Washington
Map Type: Continent
Map Size: Large
Map Speed: Epic

If there is a spot I'll take it...

I also got Gold and BtS as a self-bought Christmas gift to myself. I have played exactly 1 game and I am just winding down to a win at the end (either Histo or Space). Someone will have to help me out with any patches I may need or that BUG thing I've read about.

I am totally open on any game settings as well, I'm easy going.

I'm not very keen on America (or Germany) mainly because their UUs and UBs come late in the game and if we're playing well enough we should be cruising to victory by the time they become available.

Sure thing :)

The only thing you need is the 3.13 patch. I'm guessing most of the others don't have the unofficial patch so it may be easier for me to remove that then have everyone else get it. Splime and Dawn don't have BUG I'm assuming, so I might as well just remove that as well.

You might want to get the Blue Marbel 3.0 it just updates the gfx of the land masses.

Ah, nice catch. Very few people know that avatar.

Washington is good for a large map with the Expansive trait. What difficulty level - Noble or Prince would be the best for just starting.

As for BUG, it's a really nice tool, but easy enough to play without. The logging and simplified screens are nice additions. Not sure if the bug in BUG was fixed, so we would all need to run it or not at all. Never played with that particular patch (Bhuric's), but I guess I can load it if necessary.

I love his work, and had several of his books from early on.

I'm thinking Noble just because it sounds like newb and that's what what I am. ;)

Is there a quick and easy way to turn it off? I can't say I care a great deal one way or the other if we play with it. But seeing how there's at least two people without it, it might be best to turn it off... Unless that causes problems with other SG's.

Well, the idea is to learn the game mechanics. Pick a leader with an early UU and UB. Financial or Creative traits would allow for more attention to the mechanics and strategy.

Well here's a few options then...

Egypt/Hatshepsut
Any of the English leaders
Viking/Ragnar
Carthaginian/Hannibal

Hannibal seems to be the best starting choice, with being Financial and Creative, with what looks like a nice early UU and UB.

You can Load BUG'ed savegams without BUG beeing installed and vice versa. The only issue is, that for the players who don't use Bug the game will crash if they try to opne the log...

As I said, I'm totally open on whatever leader, etc... But I do think it would be nice to pick a tribe with an early UU and UB.

As to patchs, add-ins, just point me in the right direction and I'll download.

Hannibal is Financial/Charismatic - Willem has the traits you mentionned.

Good luck for this game - with pigswill in the roster you're up for a fine game (have played my first online game with him/her too ;))!
