Version 2.x bug reports

Ok, my problem's getting quite weirder. Whenever I try to run Vanilla BTS, with modular loading disabled, it runs fine. However, when I got to load a ROM game, it crashes right after the lobby. If I enable modular loading, Vanilla BTS doesn't even work...
Could it be that this is caused by 2.6 mod accidentally installed to C:/BtS instead of the mod folder itself? I may have just done something like that, but then I've reinstalled the game several times to no avail...

On real life jungle areas it rains just about daily (fresh water) and cutting down the forests doesn't really affect local rain patterns.

Actually it does. Especially jungles. Most of the rain that falls in the Amazon basin is rain water recycled from the last time it rained.

This is now annoying. Two of my colonies were wiped out by a single barbarian musketman. Or should I say one for each colony. We had gunpowder but not the tech needed for arabesq. or muskets ourselves.

Edit: Incense is not a valued resource, automatic workers wont improve it and no one will buy it. Even though you have the code to get the city screen religion and corporation box scrolling it does not work for me.

I don't agree with this feature. I think it doesn't rain because it's a jungle, but it's a jungle because it rains.

It seems that 2.62 is extremely buggy for me. I'm suspecting that it's the dogs as zap pointed out earlier since I haven't been using the rev or barb mods with my games and the crashes aren't reproducible.

Hi. This is the first time I'm posting.

I've been playing 2 games and I'm having a weird CTD whenever I reach mid of Medieval Age. The problem usual occur during the City Build Screen and the same turn. If I set it to AI autoplay for 1 turn the CTD does not occur but at the next turn during the city build screen CTD again.

I've tried clearing the cache as well as reinstalling the RoM. Wonder if Windows 7 have to do with this CTD. This issue is been occuring since 2.61.

Version: RoM 2.62
Size: Huge
Settings: Default with Revolution Mod

Do you need the save file as well? Thanks :)

Hi, Zappara. I got the log files and the save game finally.
Problem: Crushing to desktop when I played game with 2.6 or 2.62. This was never happenned in 2.5 or 2.4
Situation before the crush happenning:
1: After AI unit attacks my unit, I load the save. Whenever I open or close the combat effect option.
2: After I attcks AI unit, Whenever I load or not, but it not happens everytime.
3: After AI unit attcks AI unit, and I can see in the screen.
4: And sometimes when I load the game.
I have already turned all of the graphic option low and I have already finished 2 Deity/Marathon/Standard/Custom Continent/8 player/Revolution on/barbarian on/ games in 2.52 and I finished the last game in 1799AD and I never meet this problem before.
I have already reinstall the game once and I still can not figure it.
Should I reinstall my XP SP2?
Here I post my log and save, please check them. I meet the crushing problem in just a few turns.
Please help me.
Thanks.

No, no need to install it again. It seems that with your system something goes wrong with python. From the python logs:

File "CvMainInterface", line 6437, in updateInfoPaneStrings

RuntimeError: unidentifiable C++ exception
ERR: Python function forceScreenRedraw failed, module CvScreensInterface

So I'll have to check what happens there. Also from other python log:

PY: Rev - Initializing Civics List
19:04:05 INFO : RoM - civics len is 224 and num of civic options is 7 and num of civic infos is 54

I added that info check when I was having similar problem in one of the 2.6beta versions. civics len should never go above 54 and in your case it does go above it which means that revolution component initializes civics list every turn. I couldn't figure why it did that on beta versions but it worked correctly after I had merged RevDCM again more carefully and with 2.6-2.62 I haven't seen this error on my own computer.

So at this point I'll suggest that you remove Rise of Mankind from your computer, then go to My documents\My Games\Beyond the Sword -folder and delete all ini files from there except CivilizationIV.ini (deleting that one is ok too as the game makes new one if it can't find it). Then start normal BtS at least once and just to make sure the cache is cleared out, hold down shift button during when the game loads itself. After all this install full Rise of Mankind v2.62 and see if the error still occurs.

I have a red blob instead of a unit cossack I think.
I can't remember changing that unit's graphics in this patch cycle. Is the unit shown in civilopedia or is there also red blob?

First welcome to the forum! :)

I looked through the logs and couldn't see any problems in them that could cause CTD. I haven't seen or tested Windows 7 yet so I can't say if that is the cause for this crash or not. What you could test is to run the game on smaller map size (standard size) and see if you get similar problems with it.

Thank you, Zappara. I will do what you told me to do and see if it happens again.
BTW:hold down shift button during when the game loads itself--It means when I click BTS.exe, hold down shift button till it enters into the game? and when I enter ROM, do the same thing again?

Yes, hold it down until you see the main menu.

Hi,

I installed 2.62 Megapack and I also get the error that I don't get any menu/interface in the starting screen of the game. Just the background picture in all it's glory...

I have also tried everything that was suggested:
- CvAltroot.py with the BtS-Root as directory
- CvAltroot.py with BtS-document-Root as dir
- Removing all ini-Files and reinstalling

Nothing is working, the menu will not appear.

I attached my logfiles.

Didn't see anything wrong with your logs. I'll test Megapack later this week and see if I can figure out any possiblle causes to these problems.

One observation: When playing around with options I noticed that when I turned ModularLoading off in the Rise of Mankind.ini I got the menu (of course that doesn't really help since it seems to be needed to play).

Moved from wrong thread, because I'm a moron:

Okay, can't seem to get the new Megapack to work properly, which is SRSLY annoying because I adore your work and really wanted those extra civs.

Circumstances:

-Windows Vista, relatively crappy computer, but it's been able to run other popular extensive mods here (CIV Gold, Thomas' War, couple of others) and ran your mod fine without the additional civs.
-BTS patched to v3.17.
-Removed the existing Rise Of Mankind directory completely; fresh installed the Megapack as an attempted solution; same problem happens.
-Crash comes consistently when game play is an instant away from beginning - the Ctrl-Alt-O screen appears on the right, and then I get sent to desktop.
-It's *trying* to give me error messages but I'm getting transparent boxes with no text in them - one of these boxes is titled C++ Runtime Library, or words to that effect.
-RoM Inland Sea, Gigantic, Snail, 6 AI players deleted to increase elbow room, other options are default + the Barbarian Civs mod.

Also not having any luck figuring out how to find/activate logging. Can someone in the peanut gallery help out the class moron? I'd appreciate a couple bullet points if you have a second...

Bug in Abandon city code. We will need a way to specify certain buildings as non-salable.

You can infinitely sell (and thus create infinite gold) any "free" building that you have. For example Monuments if you own Stonehenge, Granaries if you own the Pyramids, and the Arena if you own Olympic games. The code needs to check if the player owns these wonders and exclude said free building(s) from the list of salable buildings if they do.

Ok, I now tried 2.62 without megapack and it seems to run just fine (at least it starts ok, haven't had time to really play yet).
But now I'm curious: I had the same thing with 2.5. Base version would run, megapack would have some unexplainable problems (in 2.5 it was the C++ runtime error at map creation/game initialization - in 2.6 now the missing main menu). What is so special about some extra civilizations that would create such problems?

I recently had a problem with my computer. It had a virus that I couldn't get off. So I brought it to bestbuy and they ran a scan and the corrupted file was in Civilization IV. Now the game obviously doesn't come with a virus so the only way it could have gotten in was though downloading a mod. I'm curious whether any of you have had a problem and I think it would be helpful if anyone here could explore whether your mod has a virus in it or whether one of the downloading sites have a virus in them that caused it to be transferred to my computer.
