I am totally new at modding but really interested in it. I have already downloaded and started memorizing Kael's awesome guide but I have a few questions.

First and foremost, and please have a little mercy in the flaming, I can't seem to find a place to download Modbuddy or Nexus. I can't be the only *ahem* noob that has a problem with this and would appreciate a link or two :D Found. Thanks guys!

The pc I plan to do my modding on is not the same pc that has photoshop on it. Is there issues with making shield designs on one pc and transferring them over via memstick?

I have an issue with Modbuddy where my interface on the Properties screen doesn't have the checkbox for Reload Leader System. Did I do something wrong?

Now I have gotten to the point where I want to test my mod. I click Build, the window at the bottom opens fine, it says 1 completed successfully, 0 errors yadda. I boot Civ V, click on mods and there's nothing there. I check my mods folder, nothing there either. Fixed this one too :D

I had more but they either went away or answered themselves when I thought about it.

Well, don't feel bad. Open up steam. Under library is the download section and from there download the Civ5 SDK which comes with Nexus, Modbuddy, Worldbuilder, and the tuner.

Took me forever to find. I never go to that section.

Ok. Now I feel like a Grade A moron!

Nope, there should be no issue with transferring the image files from one machine to another after you've saved them.

I don't have a Reload Leader System either, my guess is that it is something that was in a beta release, but was removed (at least temporarily) for the public release of the tools.

Thanks so much for the reply!

So if I'm making a unique civ based on Vana diel (the world of Final Fantasy 11), does this mean that at this time, we can't use original leaders?

While I'm at it, I probably already know the answer to this question but, where do I save the image files after I've transferred them from the pc with Photoshop so that Modbuddy can find them?

You can just open up modbuddy and open up the folder in the flash drive that contains the image and drag/drop or copy/paste directly into the folders list in modbuddy. It will then automatically add the image to the folder directory that you set it to within the project.

Thanks so much! I kinda figured it was that easy, but wanted confirmation before I tried anything.

NP, but keep in mind that no one can learn without it being tried. How do you think kids learn things about their electronics so fast? By reading the manual? no. They do it by clicking random buttons and seeing what they do/where they go with no heed to breaking their device with the certainty that everything can be reset somehow.

New question :'(

I'm up to the point in Kael's guide where you get to add icons to your civ. I can't for the life of me find the .psd template that he mentions, the one with all the circles.

Also, that part is a little confusing to me. It says the logo is 256/256 but it says the template is 2048/2048. So if I wanted to get a head start in Photoshop, do I make my doc 256 or 2048?

While we are on the subject, where do I find the in-game xml files? I wanted to re-do Egypt with Cleopatra as leader but nothing else changed.

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\sid meier's civilization v\Assets\Gameplay\XML" Cherried because I'm sure that I'm not the only one looking for these.

I just had a scary thought. My civ is named differently in my xml data, but I named the parent forlder for the entire civ the same as an in-game civ. Will I have a problem loading my mod because of this? At present, I can get the mod into the mod browser but can't get it into the game.

Just a quick little bump. I'm trying really hard to find these Icon Templates but so far, I'm not having much luck.

Can anyone help me out real quick?

Well, now I understand why noone was answering me. I found them. Like before, I was looking in the wrong place

I would still like an answer to my other question really quick if anyone knows about my parent file being named the same as an in-game civ. My guess is, since I can get it into the mod browser that It's not an issue, but I can't figure out why my mod doesn't appear in-game.

I think I've hit the end of my rope. I took the civilopedia tags out, debug shows nothing wrong, mod shows up in my list of installed mods but it refuses to show up anywhere else. It has to be something small that my inexperienced eyes can't see. I'm pretty sure there's no typos as I copy/pasted pretty much the whole thing, other than name changes and such.

If anyone would be so kind as to take a look at my solutions, I would be honored :D

Folder names in mods do not matter. Filenames of DB xml files in mods do not matter.

They do if you have already built the mod and start renaming folders outside of modboddy. Even within modboddy, it sometimes doesn't go so well...

To whoever deleted my posts: Thank you very much. You deleted my mod, a ton of extremely useful information, many hours of aggravation for what reason? I really needed those files and that wonderful advice that I was given.

I would have appreciated a warning that I was doing something wrong (I know I wasn't but hey). That is what communication is for. You couldn't even respect me enough to tell me who you are and why you deleted my work.

The file that you linked to isn't enough. You need to include the "builds" folder in a rar or something so that we can see the xml files.

Thanks for wanting to help dood. I had it posted as an attatchement but some of my posts were deleted (including the post that had the attatchment) and all the posts with the helpful information that others were kind enough to give me.

I'll see if I can PM it to you later if you like. I appreciate any and all help I can get :D
