Vicevirtuoso's Civilizations

Aw, that's a shame. No more JoJo civs. I loved Valentine.

The Dojyan Man kinda got a lukewarm reception, lol. He'll probably get a lot more popular when SBR gets animated, but by that time we might be playing Civ VII.

Honestly though, about the only other Jojo civ I'd even entertain the idea of making would be the Pillar Men, and even then, I'm not entirely sure how I'd go about it.

Burnout happens -- I'm a bit amazed some of the more prolific modders, like JFD, haven't suffered it yet. But I know I've had periods where I had to take time off from modding and Civ to do other things.

I do hope you'll be back at some point, though!

Yeah, I don't plan on dropping out entirely. WFTW still needs to get finished, after all. And now that I'm more comfortable with model rigging/conversions, I should go follow suit with my other mods at some point.

It does seem like interest in my mods is picking up more, though...

JFD simply does what he wants... He won't suffer from burnout if he does something different each time.
But hey, I guess you could do things other then civs too!

I recall reading JFD saying he was feeling burnout at one point in his thread, but digging through that monstrosity of a thread is beyond me at this point. He especially was feeling some frustration with certain things in ExCE (or maybe it was P&P) which were causing the game to unavoidably CTD.

Don't play with my feelings man, that SBR anime needs to happen. Still, I heard nothing but praise for the civ from all my friends that read JoJo.

I could probably come up with a Pillar Man design, if you want. Might not be as original or unique as the stuff you come up with but it something.

That's good to hear. And while I doubt I'll get around to it any time in the near future, I'll certainly take a look at your ideas for the Pillar Men. I figure obtaining the Red Stone of Aja should be a key part of the UA, somewhat like how obtaining Corpse Parts is a key part of Valentine's US.

Yeah, the was basically the idea I had in mind for the UA.
Basically something like that.

Heavy spoilers for JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Battle Tendency

Spoiler :
Pillar Men Empire
Leader: Kars
Capital: The Colosseum (Their sleeping place, alternatively the Swiss town where they hid works too)
Colors: BG is Kars's purple. Icon is a very light blue with low saturation. Later becomes red with red.
Icon: Stone Mask, but after becoming the Ultimate Life form it turns into the red stone instead.

UA: Birth of the Perfect Life Form
May send :c5greatperson: Great People to perform excavations on any tile, offering a small chance that they will find the Red Stone of Aja.*

UA2: Reign of the Perfect Life form
All Vampires become resistant to attrition. May place animal and plant resources on tiles in your territory by expanding workers. Spawns a unique :c5greatperson: Great General capable of :c5war: combat which is revived 10 turns after getting killed
(*After finding the red stone UA turns into UA2)

UU: Vampire
Replaces the Swordsman. Doesn't require Iron. HP is restored after damaging an enemy unit, but suffers damage every turn on open terrain outside of cities.

UB: Stone Mask Temple (Referencing the location where Straits gets a Stone Mask)
Replaces Temple and contains a slot for a :greatwork: Great Work of Art. Whenever the city :c5citizen: grows in size there is a chance that a free Vampire will spawn in it.

To elaborate a bit on the design. UA as you said is obviously focused on finding the Red Stone of Aja, which in game is a bit similar to Valentine's corpse part UA indeed. This UA is incredibly weak but forces the player to search as many tiles as possible even enemy ones, encouraging war. The reason why only Great People can find these is basically because I consider Pillar Men Great People in comparison to generic vampires or zombies within their army.

However if the search for the stone is successful one is rewarded with the strongest UA out there. First part is about Kars becoming resistant to sun light. Second part is about possessing the ability to create any life form from his body. Third part is Kars, being the GG in question, being a completely indestructible war machine.

UU:
Straightforward, folks who found the stone mask. Can't go outside in broad sunlight, but can devour and drink the blood of others to become stronger.

UB:
The slot is obviously a place for the mask. The Vampire part is basically about the sacrificial rituals we saw in the flashback in the beginning of... Part 1 I think?

So yeah, not an incredibly unique design like your other civs but still tried to be as unique as possible. Probably not enough to make you consider this civ but I had fun making it regardless.

Actually, I think that one is well designed. It's a solid idea, though there are parts of it which will require overrides of UnitPanel, which I try to shy away from now.

Glad you like it! Not sure what UnitPanel is but I assume it is about the workers being able to create resources?
Well, if that is too much of a mess I suggest giving them the ability to build pastures, camps and plantations on any tile which when finished consumes the worker and places a random resource fitting to the improvement on the tile.

I believe the UnitPanel is the one that pops up on the left hand side of the screen with all of the actions (attack, bombard, upgrade, etc.) that a unit can do. Unfortunately, there's no way in the base Civ code to add a new action/mission, so to do so the modder has to modify the UnitPanel lua itself to show the new action buttons. At the very least, this means different mods that add new actions end up in conflict with each other as they're all trying to modify the UnitPanel lua file.

The worker idea may be more feasible -- you could create a unique Worker replacement that has a build action that can be done anywhere, and upon completion spawns a resource (or reveals the Red Stone).

While I'm not up to do the SQL and particularly the Art/Text for it right now, I'd be happy to chip in the Lua for that Civ.

Anyway, interest check, and a little bit of a moral question. For those of you who have played Endless Legend, I have become enamored with the idea of porting at least one of its factions to Civ 5:

Spoiler :
The Broken Lords

UA: Appetite for Dust
Food yield not used. Units may not heal from fortifying. May spend Gold to buy Population or heal Units. +3 Gold from Resources and +1 Gold from Specialists.

UU: Stalwart (Pikeman)
Heals 25 HP whenever an enemy unit adjacent to it dies in combat. +20% Combat Strength when Defending.

UB: Dust Dredger (Granary)
Grants none of the effects of a regular Granary. Instead, it provides +1 Gold on River Tiles and +4 Gold from Lakes and Oases. No maintenance.

Additional UA Details:
Gold cost to purchase Population is as follows:
Pop 1-10: 4 Gold per 1 Food needed for a normal city
Pop 11-20: 5 Gold per 1 Food
Pop 21+: 6 Gold per 1 Food
Cost of buying Population is doubled if your Empire is Unhappy.
Cannot buy Population if your Empire is Very Unhappy (-10) or worse.

Gold cost to heal Units is:
1 HP for Gold equal to 10% of the unit's combat strength (ranged strength for Air units), rounded down (min 1)

May not build Farms.
May build Trading Posts immediately.
March, Medic, and Medic II promotions disallowed. Scout Survivalism allowed.
-300% Gold in Cities producing a Settler
Cannot build Aqueducts, Hospitals, or Medical Labs (Granaries have the UB so they don't count)
Can still build Hanging Gardens/Temple of Artemis/etc, but the Food benefit is wasted.

Policy modifications:
Landed Elite: BLs get a -15% cost reduction in buying Pop in the Capital
Tradition Finisher: BLs get a -10% cost for buying Pop in all Cities and for healing Units
Civil Society: +1 Gold from Specialists

Sound interesting? I know it'll be fun to make.

But I feel kind of wrong for wanting to port a fictional civilization from a direct competitor to this game. I also kinda feel like it'll be one of the Civs that'll get pulled from the workshop due to this...

I'm really itching to see if I can make such a crazy idea work in Civ 5, so I'm going to go ahead and announce it as official:

Next Civilization: The Broken Lords (Endless Legend)

Icon preview:

UA: Appetite for Dust
Food yield not used. Units may not heal from fortifying. May spend Gold to buy Population or heal Units. +1 Gold from Resources, Great Person Improvements, and Landmarks per Era.

UU: Stalwart (Longswordsman)
Unlocks at Chivalry instead of Steel. Heals 50 HP whenever it kills an enemy. 3 Movement.

UB: Dust Dredger (Granary)
Grants none of the effects of a regular Granary. Instead, it provides +1 Gold on River Tiles and +4 Gold from Lakes and Oases. No maintenance.

This Civ will be beta tested for bugs and balance prior to the implementation of Events & Decisions. This beta test should be up within the next three days or so.

There are actually randomized names attached to AI leaders in EL, and I will have a Lua script to do the same here. But in this case, it will also apply to human players who haven't put in a custom name already.

You know after trying out some of your Metal Gear Solid and Saints Row civs, I have to say I am impressed with your handywork. I'm not sure your still taking suggestions (probably not) but have you ever thought of doing a Bobobo civ, if you don't what the show is about it's essentially a weird afro-hairstyle 70s looking man fighting people with his nose hairs, considering all the other crazy fictional civs it would fit perfectly. Don't really take this as a suggestion more as a "tip" considering I barely play fictional civs at all and you seen pretty burned out at the moment.

I have taken suggestions/requests twice before (Liquid Ocelot and Nepgear), but both of them have been for something I've worked on previously. Many requests I receive have been for series I haven't watched or played, and this is another one of those. So in this case I'd have to pass.

When I try to play as Broken Lords, I get an error message: "Font Error: Could not load font xml file". If I press the "Ok"-button on the error message, I can still progress to the game and play normally, however.

Also I cannot find any button that would let me buy Population. Unit healing button shows up but doesn't work.

Food is properly disabled and resources give extra gold.
