Give an anecdote(s) of when you were a victim of racism. I'm listening to a radio show now talking about racism, slavery, and reparations for slavery. One caller blamed all of blacks' problems on whites and whites' poor treatment of blacks throughout history. I don't agree that blacks' present problems are white people's fault.

I think I've been verbally insulted due to my race maybe only three times. Definitely two times that I can remember.

I can't say for certain that I was turned down for a job due to my race, but there was one time where it looked that way to me. I walked into the place, probably poorly dressed, but I spoke well. It was some kind of community computer center in Oakland, CA. Everyone there was black. I asked to speak to someone in charge about getting a job there and the woman I spoke to definitely wasn't showing me much interest. I got an application, took it home, filled it out, brought it to them, and never heard from them again.

In ante-dilluvian New Orleans, I was definitely treated rudely by blacks in service jobs. However, I can't say they treated me like that because of my race; they may have been like that to everyone.

Beyond that, I can't say I've ever really suffered because of my race.

I have a feeling this thread will be locked soon. :nuke:

At our high school basketball games, when I was a senior, a group of rowdy African American women underclassmen were were saying racist things like how much they hate white people and such, and saying they thought some white boy smelled like crap (I was sitting right in front of them and literally there were no other people in the bleachers), so I knew they were referring to me. They made some other racist comments directed at me to make me uncomfortable too, without directly saying anything to my face.

One of the few times I ever told myself that I hated black people (when what I really meant was I just hated these racists), but when I finally cooled off I knew they were just a bunch of racists and that it doesn't really matter what they say to me. I am a better person than they are for not being racist.

I can't recall (a white male) ever being actively discriminated against because of race, but I wouldn't be surprised if it has happened without me knowing during my time in Hawaii or Alaska.

That reminds me of two other things, neither directed at me. The first was some black children saying unfriendly things on a bus.

On BART (San Francisco mass transit) a black woman walked up to some white people who were chatting and loudly said, "I'm really tired and I want you to shut up. I'm going to call BART police and tell them you're being loud and bothering me." She kept doing that a few more times over a period of 15 minutes. Eventually, a young black man sat next to her and she told him, "Hey, black. Be proud of your color" or something stupid like that. Then she made this dumb sign with her fists to the young man. Good lordy.

I don't know if that's being racist or stupid. she didn't call the white people crackers or to be ashamed of their race.

The closest I've ever encountered to racism is where, jokingly, I'm mistaken for being British at a 97% White American school.

Well, that's all I remember for the moment.

Its not. Its just a kid being dramatic on the internet.

There's an obvious agenda to this thread and its not pretty.

Several times, I've dealed with discriminatory/racist customers who demanded to speak with "American tech support" as soon as they knew I wasn't from there.

Just think of it as comedy.

You mean like the following quote? :)

It was on christmas day. I was watching some show. When a guy with black skin (probably the conferains, conferwhatever) says: ''Let's stop being such whities, everybody!'' at which point I swapped channel.

Eh? ....... the high school I went to was 20/50/20/10% white, black, latino, asian you here stuff like that ...it happens when there is only one ethnicity then you get class insults, If you don't belive me watch this documentry on public school in mexico - After 5 minutes I couldn't find it ...but, I'll keep lookin.

Bottom line is don't sweat it. P.S. when you get stuff like that from black girls just get loud right back at em, trust me I'm from North Vegas I know what I am talkin about, the more loud and obnoxious you are the more respect you'll get, black guys don't like to act like annoying sterotypes! they do it because the black chicks like it!

- Yeah I know that sounds racist in and of it self but, It's what I've noticed.

I haven't been victim of racism in my country, mainly because even though there are more ethnicities (not like Greece where there are almost 98% Greeks), except for a few places near the sea where you'll find Turks there are only whites here. :) So racism is just impossible here, the only possible forms would be discrimination against gypsies or maybe in Transylvania for/against Romanians.

But I have been discriminated based on my race in Germany. I was at a guitar contest I had more points than another guy from Romania. We were basically dominating the contest (which was international). I had an average of 98.65 points and the other guy 97.10 (not sure about the .10 part but certainly at 97). So the guy complained to the jury that his points were lower because he was a Jew. So the chief of the jury, Mrs. Monika Rost, spoke to the jury, to all of the members in person, and convinced them that if they don't want to wreck the reputation of the festival they have to give the guy the first prize. And her best argument was "Jews - like myself - have been treated bad in Germany during the times..." etc. I'm not ******* guilty for what the nazis did, and this was clearly racism. (giving someone a prize because he is a Jew)

I don't think I have been.

For the record, I am white, and the city of Atlanta has a black majority.

How 'bout them apples?

Positive discrimination like that sucks, it's clear who won the competition, and even the jerk who played the race card knew it.

It reminds me of the dance competition in Saturday night fever, where the black couple blew John travolta and his lady away, but John travolta won, because they was black. So he gave them the award. I'd personally of felt ashamed of accepting an award I didn't merit winning.

This is my agenda.

EDIT: I just realized you're attributing that first sentence to me. No, I'm not being overly dramatic if that's what you mean. I'm simply stating what happened. Disbelieve it if you want.

I'm only a few years younger than you. I'm not a kid.

I've been called the n-word online, and this always cracks me up cause I'm not even black:lol:

And you needed another thread why?

Quit beating around the bush and just say it what the real issue is.

Ok, here it is.

1. First, people start threads on this forum for what's on their minds. So I started this one. I was listening to a radio show talking about racism. Some callers called in and said how racism is everywhere. So I thought, "Hey, I'll start up a thread to see how pervasive is this belief that racism is everywhere."

2. Based on my own experience and since I don't really hear complaints from my white friends about how they're treated badly because of their race, I don't expect to read an incredibly large number of complaints by whites about racism. So far, I've said the most which is four. So, I, and the other posters, have been victims of incredibly little racism throughout our lives.
