video editing software

if you have Windows XP, Windows Movie Maker is very simple.

and if you just want to do simple cutting, Avidemux. is good.

I noticed a lot of freeware/open-source video editors are more for advanced.

Best for beginners? Adobe Premiere Pro. Not free though.
Its gonna be kinda hard to find a Windows based video editing app thats free. If you had Linux, I'd reccomend Kino ( heard lots of good things about it )

For Windows, I think Blender might be able to do video editing, but it sure as heck isnt for beginners.

I downloaded the trial to Adobe Premiere Pro CS3, it was very daunting... It reminded me of the first time I switched from using MS Paint to Photoshop. It's a little overwhelming.

I'm going to second the Windows Movie Maker, it got the job done for me.

It was daunting for me at first too, but once you get a little used to it and just mess around for a while, it becomes a very powerful tool. It also helps that it integrates so well with AE.

That was a pretty big bump. I doubt the OP even cares anymore.

I still recommend Avidemux for simple cutting. I also found a cool feature which lets you shrink an AVI file without much loss in quality. Can't remember the name of it, right off.

See what happens when I'm tired.

My bad, I was bored and browsing "Computer Talk," and this was near the top of the 2nd page. In terms of time, it was a big bump, but with how much activity this part of the forum gets, I don't think it was too drastic.
