Thanks for the :trophy2: Rheinmetall. I will put it on my desktop right away.
Ahh...and you made me dig out my collection of C64 game music. My neighbours are having some miserable times right now.

And now for my question (sorry for the delay):
Which was the first videogame to be banned for minors in (western) Germany?

This question might be too hard for non-germans without an extensive nerdy knowledge and/or people that don't want to google for it all day. So here is a little (slightly modified) screenie of the game:

I hope the screenshot doesn't make it too easy.

River Raid?
By the way, it was removed from the index in 2002 and is now deemed acceptable for players of all ages.

 correctamente!

By the way, it was removed from the index in 2002 and is now deemed acceptable for players of all ages.

yeah, an amazing re-evaluation!!

In the explanatory statement for indexation on December 19th 1984 it is written (according to Wikipedia):
"Minors should think as an uncompromising fighter and destroyer (...). A paramilitaristic education takes place in the childhood (...). With older minors, playing leads (...) to physical cramps, anger, aggressiveness, erratic thinking (...) and headaches." (BPjS-Aktuell Heft 2/84)

:twitch: -> :dubious: -> :hammer2:

I accept a limited amount of censorship, especially regarding the protection of minors. Unfortunately this is done in a rather strange way here in Germany. Play River Raid and you might understand what I mean.

OMG i need to get that game. NOW! I used to play it on some unknown russian platform.

Where can i find it ?

Get yourself a C64 for the ultimate "previousgen" experience. This might not be the cheapest solution though.
Alternatively, you can play a lot of old games on your PC by using an emulator. I've tested some C64 emulators (VICE and CCS64) and they were working quite good (it's much easier than the fierce hacking which is sometimes necessary to run old DOS games).
Unfortunately, I'm not totally sure about the legal status of the games. The problem might be similar to "abandonware". This is something to be checked for the individual game. However River Raid should be free now (it's from 1982).
Use http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/River_Raid to find some links which will sure enough guide you to whatever you need to play it.

Oh, how i hated the BPjS as a minor! (Before high speed internet made any censoring attempt useless ;))
Name the game!

Might that be Myst?
Never played it, but something like that is written on that strange cylinder in the upper right corner :D.
And about the BPjS, now mutated to the BPjM, have a look at http://www.bpjm.com
if you understand german. It's quite interesting and NO, you shouldn't use it as a shopping list.

No, it's not Myst, but you are not completely off the mark, either.
And thanks for the bpjS/M link! Doom, Dark Forces, Crusader, Duke, they've got
'em all! :D
Edit: Oh boy, Commandos was even confiscated!

Well done! Pyst was a spectacularly bad parody of Myst. It put you into the world of Myst... after 4million players had been there before. Hence the trash.
It bombed in sales, though, and took the fledging video game parody genre down with it. (Well, maybe not)
I intended to post another game, but i can't for the life of me remember the name. :(

Anyway, over to you, Rhein!

Now if I was evil I might post a piece from my C64 music archive, and practically give the next one to DarkMatter. :satan:

But since I'm a nice person I'm posting a video of a game that no one has any chance of recognizing. :jesus:

Feast your eyes on this.

This was actually the video I was about to ask earlier, but I thought that it would be just as impossible as the thread opener. Well, enjoy.

I can't get the video to work (is it just me?)

Does this work? I think Rhein's server is case sensitive.

Oops. My bad. T'was very late in the night when I posted it.

The link is now fixed.

Tapan Kaikki?

Not quite. But you are getting there.

Hint:
The video is form the PC version, but there's also a C64 version of the game.
