something really unusual happened to me the other day. i had one worker, one warrior in the city and one warrior somewhere exploring when the vedic aryans event occured. they spawned on the athens place, and i was mehmed(some alternative to the earth map). i didn't have bronze workin so no chop nor whip. but they had to go around the mountain in greece so they were able to kill me in about five turns. and they came around the mountain, towards me...

but they just passed by to ukraine. i'm pretty sure they were able to see my city in the corner of BFC, with one lonely warrior, such an easy prey, and the just passed by. needless to say, i overjoyed it.

and another wierd thing is that they didn't destroy any nation. i mean, vedic aryans WITHOUT AT LEAST ONE DESTROYED NATION!!! WTH?

so, has anyone other experienced something similar? is it something to do with that save being wb save and not normally generated map? it wasn't a mod, just a wb map. and it looks like too much luck for me.

You didn't have the Great Wall, did you? Also, what difficulty? I think there is a snag where the event can occur but on lower levels barbs aren't allowed to enter your borders before a certain turn. So they just go and pick on the first undefended Ai they can find.

I've seen the Vedic Aryans not destroy nations plenty of times. Usually they split up and all just die while throwing themselves on some protective civ's CG2/drill archers.

it was noble, i can't remember the turn... and no great wall
it's intrensting fact that barbs can't enter my teritory before certain turn. is that turn the same on all difficulties or does it vary?

When barb event barbs spawn, a certain city will be placed as their target. This city does not necessarily belong to the Civ the event happened to. They will ignore everything and make a beeline to their intended target, making no deviations from the shortest route, only fighting if something is directly on their way. So they can well pass 1 tile away from an unprotected city and not take it.

Only the barb event barbs act like this, the normal barbs play by different rules.

really? good to know. thanks for the info

If I got a vidic aryan event I would WB delete them. Ugh, if they killed me it would just be a waste of my whole time so far invested in the game. I do like some other random events though so I leave them on.

yeah ive seen a stack of vedic spearmen pass along my territory like nothing. when i realized they weren't attacking my cities or any of my workers i ignored them and happily improved my tiles as they coasted along.

This happened to me as well on Warlord level. I believe it was a stack of archers but it may have been swordsmen. AT any rate I started whipping axemen and they just one of their merry way to the AI next to me.

If you feel that way then just turn off those events in the CIV4EventTriggerInfos.xml file. There's a line that determines the probability of the event happening, just change it to 0.

It should be mentionned that once the barbs from this event capture their city to move on to go after another city, leaving the newly captured city completely ungarissoned. So, do rush a troop to one of those cities if someone loses one of their cities.

One game I was playing Rome on Monarch and had a stack of 8 or so barbarian horsemen spawn next to my second largest city, defended at the time by an archer and axman. After swearing profusely for about five minutes I continue the game, and of course the stack moves into a tile next to the city, seemingly ready to attack. Having braced myself for the loss of the city, I was greatly surprised, and relieved, when the stack kept moving on towards the Celts' capitol, with which my city shared a border. That was the first time I had seen that, and still remember it vividly. The Celts survived the attack, too.

Can someone tell me how to increase vidic aryan to happen at least once a game.

I was about to abandon a game and post a winge about the vindictive programming of this event, when I read this thread. My warrior was recovering from a bear attack outside Willem's border when the Vedic Aryans spawned next to it.

They ignored the warior, ignored Willem and moved north, towards Uruk our happy home, about 10 squares distant. Sure enough, guess who turn up on the border?

It's at this point I'm about to abandon, but read this thread and decided to see what would happen if I just ignored them. They ignored me. Marched past the worker mining, marched past the ungarrisoned capital. Guess the RNG picked Pacal, my neighbour to the west as the target.

I plan to watch. ;)

My last game i got the VAs. Spawned right ourside my borders. My hill capital had 2 archers, they had 4 so i liked my odds. They immediatly headed into the blackness. i sent an archer to follow them, not only did they help fogbust a path for my archer, they destroyed churchill and so i just slipped into london and took a free size 4 capital with 3 worked seafood tiles. a few turns later, there's the remaining 2 back at my capital, suiciding at my 3 archers up on the hill gaining one of them a level. So they wiped a PRO/CHA civ off my back door and gave my border a free CGI... Thanks guys! If you wanna stop by next game and eat my capital for breakfast feel free!
