cybrxkhan, I expected to see "PHO" in your poll even before opening the thread. Now I'm going to read on..

What is Pho, exactly (I gather it is some kind of food)?

Yes, you can send me some for free and I may convert! If it is anything like Kim-chi, forget it - cabbage prepared by burial and rotting is not nice.
Oh man, "rotting"?? :nono: Haven't you heard of fermented food???!!!! :hammer:

Anyway I voted for the first option. Not that my love for pho was a reason.. :mischief: Actually Vietnam would be an interesting addition. I expected Vietnam as the first SE Asian inclusion. And I bet good for another good scenario which we all expect.. what about UU? Vietnamese Guerrilla -- 3x movement in jungle, +200% combat in jungle, or invisible in jungle?

it still seems pretty even between 'Nam and Khmer...

of course, that wouldn't be the best UU, i meant for aesethic reasons - there were more better historical UUs, like War Elephants and Ancient warriors. but a Guerilla unit would be awesome.

The whole Pho thing really doesn't add anything to the appeal of Vietnam, if anything it demeans Vietnam by suggesting its main contribution to history is a 20th century dish popular in the US. Be like suggesting curry, rather than Buddhism, modern numbers, etc, was the main contribution of Indian civilization. I appreciate it's all tongue and cheek, but still.

In Scotland many intellectuals b*tch that emphasis on tartan and the "tartanization of Scottish history" demeans Scottish history and the real achievements of the Scottish people in return for a popular American cliche and extra tourist revenue.

No offence... but I think that Asia is supported well enough. There should have been a new leader for Japan and a new civ; Australia imo... and "no", I'm not an Aussie :p

you all who dare attack the greatness of Pho do realize that it is a 1/2 :joke:, right? there IS more to Vietnam than Pho and the Vietnam War... unfortunately, many Americans don't get that. :)

by the time of the 2nd expansion, many decent regional and lesser regional powers are game. and Vietnam is one of them.

Well, I don't know the region in depth, but I don't really have a strong preference to picking one civ over the other to represent the area. They all have merits in their favor. At the 34 civ mark now, though, I'd have been OK with 2 representing the region. I'd probably be more in favor of Indonesia as my next Asian civ though if we somehow get a 3rd xpac (though I'd definitely have room for a 2nd or 3rd Asian civ as well in a mythical xpac).

I don't know that Khmer is better buisness in the US than Vietnam. I could be wrong, but I believe there are more Vietnamese Americans than Cambodian Americans, and the people who buy this game in the US don't generally have any anger towards the Vietnamese people.

I don't even think having Ho Chi Minh as the leader would cause controversy, though I'd hope they'd pick a better one.

if the Vietnamese living in America themseelves find out, they're going to make a big deal about it.

there was a small incident in California a while ago when a Vietnamese shopkeeper decided to hang the flag of (communist) Vietnam (probably at the direction of the communsits themselves). luckily for him, he was living in an area full of Vietnamese.
the next day, at least a thousand people were milling around his shop front in protest.

no joke.
