The Vietnamese civilization:
Potential leaders; Le Loi who defeated the Chinese and established a new dynasty, Tran Hung Dao, a general whom the Mongols could not defeat, in fact, Vietnam is one of the only places (there are others) the Mongols could not conquer. The Mongols were defeated at least 3 times. The Vietnamese conquered the Champa and Khamer kingdoms. The also eventually defeated the French and American efforts did not prevail in Vietnam.
Attributes would be Aggresive and Industrious
Cities: Hue, Saigon, Hanoi, Danang, Nha Trang, Dalat, Haiphong,
Unique unit-infantry who treats jungle/forest terrain as roads.
Make them usually annoyed with Chinese, French.

Comments?

I agree.

The chinese went into Vietnam in '79 ( I think) and left with 50k+ fewer men and *maybe* a few kilometers of new territory. The Vietnamese dont take Sh*t from anyone. The same with most SE asian nations- They dont give up, very tough! Right about the Mongols, they never had signifigant gains in SE Asia.

I would love to see the Vietnamese. Hell with a few other SE Asian Civs (Siam/Thailand, Burma, Khmere/Cambodia) you could easily make a really good scenario just for SE Asia.

Yeah, I know, he was old, ill and not actually in charge of the army during the war against USA. He died 6 years before the americans left Vietnam. But still, he' s been leading the fight against french domination, and he' s been president for 15 years, and is still the only historical vietnamese figure everyone, everywhere recognizes. Someone may think that he was a hero, someone that he was a butcher; I think he was probably both, but if I was to play 'Nam in Civ IV I' d definitely want him !

Wow! What a coincidence!

I have currently been working on creating Vietnam as a Civ. (I would also like to create a Cuban Civ as well) I think it's funny how no one has created those 2 civs already, I thought they were pretty "famous" if you will. Particularly in modern history. However, I am a complete novice at Civ 4 modding, so I am learning everything from the bottom up. Currently though, I'm in a bit of a pickle, I'm having trouble creating the Unique Unit for the Vietnamese. My idea was the "VietCong" so since I am not artistically talented, I have been searching in vain for a guerilla-type figure (ideally painted in red or black) in the Unit Customization section to use in the game. However, to my utter surprise, I have found none!! I have found Demons, Orcs and Wizards....but no guerillas!!  Again, very surprising if you ask me, especially considering the major role guerillas have played throughout world history.

While I am still searching for the "next best thing" I am also in the process of attempting to create the guerilla myself. But like I told you, not artistically talented and I'm not going to produce something which I feel isn't up to par. I would also like to see other figures such as "Red Guards" to replace "Machine Gunners" but that might be too much.

Another motivation I have in creating this Civ and the Cuban one is that I seriously doubt Firaxis will put this in their expansion, so it's up to us modders to get the job done if we want to see it.

And finally, YES Ho Chi Minh would certainly be the leader. I already have his leaderhead, just stuck on getting the unique unit...if anyone were to help me out in creating a VietCong/Guerilla unit I would be deeply appreciative! :king:

Actually i have to correct you agian threre Giap was the on that that drove the French off once and for all at Dien Bien Phu and anybody thats even lightly studied the veitnam war will know of Vo Nguyen Giap.Yes Ho Chi Minh is more well known but compareb his signicicance to that of Giap at it looks like he played a reletivly small part in the in Veitnam.

Yeah but Giap did all the work driving out the French imperlist scum!

and then Kicking out the Amricans!

Its like saying Ghandi didnt rule India but hes been put as a leader!

Who is more famous, Stalin or Zhukov? Mao or Peng? Generals are important, but they play a secondary role to the overall (civilian) leader. Just like the military is a tool secondary and subordinate to the greater state, the generals are secondary and subordinate to the Chairmans, Presidents, General Secretaries, Kings, etc.

I'd love to have a Vietnam civ. I have B52's, Special Forces, and helicopters ready /grin

Seriously, the more civs the better. Do we have Hungary and Bulgaria yet?

By the way I have a Guerilla unit and Special Forces have the ability to train them out in the field...coming up in my next ChazMod version (plus a lot more).
