OK, so I played the Viking Scenario on Noble, and it takes 1320 science to research the treasure map tech. Once you research the treasure map, it tells you the vague location of a "treasure" unit (e.g. like "Scotland" or "Northern Ireland"). So, you go find the guy, bring him home to your capital, and you get 1000 gold. But you used 1320 science to get the 1000 gold, so why not just turn research off??

Cos you're a Viking, rar!

I've noticed some discrepancies between the game and the manual. The manual claims that you gain 1000 gold per treasure, but the treasures I've gotten were much more than that, I can't remember exactly, but they were in the 2000 range.

But, it still didn't seem like much compared to the research time and difficulty finding it even after being given the very vague location.

One thing I noticed, curious if this has happened to anyone else, is that if you keep researching treasures before finding the ones you already received the clue for, you eventually get the same clue again. I wouldn't mind except it cost many years of research time to get each clue.

I can't seem to find the treasure at all. Am I suppose to recieve a treasure finding unit once I complete the treasure map tech? I just get a text telling me the general location of the treasure, and If forget the location there is no way of reviewing the location clue. Any suggestions?

After the first time I forgot, I started writing them on my whiteboard :-)

Once I realized that it was a lot of science for very little monetary return, I stopped researching them :-)

Is the treasure in a city? Not in a city? Does it move around? I played for a while but couldn't find anything even after researching the 'clue'.

It's a barbarian unit called "treasure" or something. You attack it, then you get a treasure unit of your own. I found the "Northern Ireland" one fairly easily, but never did find the one it told me about in Scotland.

I don't think it moves around. You'll recognize the gold when you see it. It stayed in place when I found it and didn't try to get away. But it can be hard to find due to fog of war. It might be in an area that you think has been revealed, but you won't see the treasure until you're just a few squares away from it. I even went into World Builder to see where they were since I had researched 5-6 new clues after my first find, but only saw one treasure in World Builder. So unless I overlooked them, it appears that only the last one researched is visible.

As far as I can see, it's a pretty pointless scenario. The whole idea is to find treasure and it's actually beneficial to just not bother at all. So far I haven't been able to find any treasure at all and I've never heard about treasure walking either. I've been in central england - it wasn't there so just incase the treasure has walked, I've gone to scotland. I've also tried to find the one in europe - still haven't found it. I assume the treasures have vanished by now so I've give up on the pointless research.

Yep, just been into worldbuilder and there are none there. I assume that means you have to guess where the treasure will appear, if you wait it'll vanish

I think the best way to play the scenario is to ransome the cities. Maybe the treasure is a red herring, since you're supposed to be Vikings.

"Go a Viking and find old men in the hills with a bit of gold"

"Go a Viking and attack the Christians, take their cities, take their gold"

Which sounds more Viking to you?
