Visibility of Vox Populi to newcomers

As a newcomer myself, I quite recently got into this mod after hearing about it. Unfortunately I'm also close to removing it.

I play only LAN with my partner and every single game has ended in a game stopping bug. We play every night and have to make a new game probably almost as often, It's ridiculous. Either crash to desktop, orders/production/end turn button becoming unresponsive, etc.

I'd recommend making this more stable before trying to gain exposure.
What game settings do you use? I'm not sure about how it is right now - but i used to play a lot with a friend and it worked quite okay. Most of bugs can be fixed by reloading couple of turns back

I think most people play VP in single player mode and as such it is pretty stable.

Furthermore, there are people here who play MP more often and have in the past who don't seem to share your experience from what I've read. MP is always going to have more issues than SP but it could be that you just had bad luck with the timing of when you found this mod.

If you report your CTDs and bugs to GitHub Gazebo and others will try to fix them, though unfortunately the fix often requires updating to the new version, which may not be savegame compatible.

The reality is that Civ 5 runs on some pretty bad net code. It’s a shame, but it is the truth. There’s just not much we can do about that. Honestly I recommend VP as a single player experience until you get used to the changes in the game’s mechanics.

The answer is simple, "convince" Firaxis for the source code and built it from the bottom up into VP. Simple and easy solution.

firaxis still wont reveal civ3 source code much less civ 5

Continents, Huge map, 30 states, 4 AI

Only problem with this is remembering to save every turn :P Even then, it'll eventually spaz out some turns later. Not really ideal, especially not for new comers to the mod.

Bugger, so nothing can be done? :( We only play for the multiplayer unfortunately. We don't get disconnections from each other, just CTD's and that 'next turn bug' (rarely, it's 99% CTD). Usually see weird stuff happen prior, like a caravan in the water, unit's that don't have the option to be deleted, a god damn dromon that thought it was a worker, etc.

But I don't want to waste your time, or mine, by submitting issues to the github if it can't be fixed. I got a treasure trove of save games with CTD next turn lol. I submitted a CTD error on github the other day. Save game with a guaranteed CTD. Like you said, if it's the game core itself then bugger.. I'll try remember to save every turn lol.. New mod feature! :P

I know what we can do to promote this mod. Sell mugs promoting it! I think the guy who complained about "mugs" was not a troll, just not a native english speaker, but super funny anyway.

That's why we gotta ask real nice like.

Does VP have a posterboy they can even use on a mug? Maybe Enrico with a bunch of trade routes flowing out of him like an octopus.

Probably a civ that has been completely remade in VP, yet easy to show off the characteristics in a picture.

As for multiplayer, I play it quite often and there has been few bugs in the latest version. There's been one or two "help I can't move anything" scenarios every game that persists in the autosave, but nothing can't be solved by going a turn back. The most annoying bug has been the annex/puppet screen not popping up.

Try smaller maps. The bigger your map is - the more unstable MP is. It simply needs to synchronize more stuff. I recommend Standard.

No. In my dreams G is an eminent god of radiant feature and raw destructive power. I would hate to have that shattered :p

Maybe his mug is a radiant feature... maybe he drinks fluorescent koolaid to achieve that... no need to assume that both are mutually exclusive. :D
