Vista issues for BTS 11

I'm trying to get HOF 3.17.001 running properly so I can play BTS 11. I've followed all the instructions on the "Fixes for Vista Issues with Civ4", but it still won't work. (I had similar problems trying to get the HOF mods working for vanilla Civ 4 and Warlords, but managed to get past them.)

One of the things I'm noticing is that I go through the instructions to turn off the "Read Only" attribute for all the files in the Firaxis directories and I see it go run through the screen saying it's doing so, but then when I check any of the files or directories, it still shows them as Read Only. Any ideas why the change isn't really taking effect?

I like Civ 4, now that I have a PC with enough power and memory to run it, but all of these HOF battles are making me long for the Civ 3 GOTMs, where we could simply download file and it would run.

You haven't said what specific error you are getting. If it is the "protected assets" error, and you are sure you don't have any non-standard modded DLLs installed, then it is often the case that the BtS patch has not been installed correctly. You may need to download and install the 3.17 patch from the link on this site, and then reinstate the HoF Mod.

I recommend you contact the HoF Mod support team here if you have further problems. We just use their software. They are the experts on getting it working.

Sorry about that. I'm do have the 3.17 patch installed, along with the HOF-3.17.001 mod, and the error I'm getting is the "HOF Mod Error".

I'll try asking in the HOF Mod forum for more help.

On the read only issue, best I can tell is that when you turn off read only, you can make changes, but after you are done, the read only resets (some default thing, I suppose).

My games run even with the files all saying read only, so a pemanent setting that is not read only does not seem to be required.

Question is, did the changes you wanted to make to permissions or whatever get locked in, or blocked.
