As if the pain I have in sympathy with the Nameless One were not enough... At a certain point in this marvellous game (Curst) I keep getting a Visual C++ error message that causes the game to crash. The error says something about an unexpected termination of Torment.exe.
I'm desperate here, how can I make this stop happening?

Is this the same box that won't run the service version of Folding@home?

Indeed. :(

Have you taken a whack at the scan I suggested in the Folding thread?

And how ugly would it be to wipe XP and start over?

I tried the scan but then I realized I have no clue what copy of Windows XP I should put in so I'm waiting for my dad to get back (since he owns most of our copies and knows which one I should be using.)
It would be pretty damn ugly to wipe at this point, I'm not sure we've got activations left... And besides, my current install is so stable... And pretty fresh too, just three months old I think...

There aren't a limited number of activations for XP... you may have to call MS to get it activated, but that's relatively painless ;)

Erm, there have been on the copies we have so far... Actually I think my dad recently bought a new key... But still, I don't like the idea of setting the whole rig up again.

Q: How many installations can be made with one product license? Has this changed with the introduction of Product Activation?

A: [...] Re-installation and re-activation on the same PC can be done an unlimited number of times.

Like I said, you may have to call MS, but it will work...
