Von Münchhausen III

I like the way coastal tiles work with the VEM mod. I think all the tiles provide +3 food with a lighthouse (same value as an irrigated tundra tile), so you can convert the extra food to culture/production/science through specialists. Couldn't you get a hammer from every coastal tile with a building in CIV? Anyway, either one of these options seems better and somewhat realistic to me. Even with those modest changes, land tiles with rivers, hills, livestock and other resources would still be better. Coastal cities, especially those with few land tiles, would just suck a little less. That's all I'm looking for... less suckage.

I agree that some of the AI tend to get stuck on stupid with their religious flavor and sometimes religion can be a little disappointing or frustrating, especially if you can't generate much faith and/or get good beliefs. Sometimes though, you can really get a lot out of religion. The odds go down obviously as the difficulty increases.

Alright, off to work for a few days. Happy New Year everybody! :)

The save is almost perfect, we have 1 unmoved unit!

Ok, this is a win in 13 turns, our close CS are very happy with us, so I don't think anything will stir them in a few turns. We have a few CS getting close to friendship only, we have 3k gold, so I would just put all that into those most vulnerable. But we wait a turn, since elections are happening on next turn, that will be interesting. We have 4 spies rigging next turn it seems. And we're making a nice 200+/gpt, so burning 3k on CS's later will be 5k, so let's hold on to our money until the turn before UN-vote.

Found a nice little trade. Lizzy will trade 3 of her Uraniums and money for our ivory! That will stop her nuking us.

So Brichals, 10 turns or 12 is the question, if you want it, play to the end over the weekend :) You have the lucky-rate, so I want you to take it. I'm not sure if I have the time to finish off even 10 turns, maybe if you're in a similar position, I do half tomorrow? But if you have the time, please take it.

Good call on the GEng's, NotSure. If we (all) had been a little bit rougher to Carthage, we would've gotten that GSci earlier, now it's 4 turns. But we're not calculators now, are we? :)

Well I could finish it. I was at home for Xmas now I'm back to my PC and I've got nothing on tomorrow particularly. I'm going to inspect the save now and if it's such an obvious win I can play it.

OK that should be not problemmatic. I can take the precaution of buying Liz's uranium. I will faith buy a second GE to force finish the UN. I think it takes 2. I don't know if this increases the cost of the natural GS. Doesn't really matter. We should win this. I will play tomorrow morning.

Thanks Brichals!

Just read on the HOF, someone got a win with 600,000 plus score?

My best is a little bit below, like 3k. How do they manage to get those big scores?

Nevermind. Just do the double, Brichals and spend what you need. You can't lose.

Turn 270 1800 AD
Swapped our 3 research cities into wealth production , still 2 turns to Globalisation, and hardly any change but anyway, might aswell. I guess it’s the sensible option now the rounding doesn’t shave us an extra turn off. Where we are going, we don’t need science! We’ve got peace!

Turn 271
Elizabeth has done Apollo. Darius wants a research agreement and he wants our marble thrown in. What can I get from him instead. Not much really, and it’s our last copy so I won’t bother.

A mass of spy rigging results come in, half positive, half negative. But still we look good. I now put 1000 in Yereven and Florence and it’s all blue for us. There will be no more riggings before the vote. So I think we got this. I might just flip through the turns.

Turn 272
Globalisation is in. > Mil Sci queued up to railroad.
Carthage switches to UN and I take the scientists out for max production. A GE drops UN from 13 turns to 6. So I buy a new GE. Next turn.

Turn 273
I rush the UN with the GE. Washington attacks Warsaw but I think it doesn’t matter. They have enough defence.

I make this trade with Liz. It gives us 2 WLTKDs and gives us her uranium. WLTKD sounds like something you get drunk on in a park as a teenager. Except Gozpel who probably drank moonshine. I know you Swedes!

Turn 274
It’s here, could I have made that a turn faster by rushing 2 GEs in the same turn, not sure if that works.

Liz will vote for us. Cute!

Oh our RA comes in with Oda. We are now at railroads almost but I won’t take up space with that.

Warsaw is in awe of us. Bonus!

I’m gradually switching all new cities to wealth. Because I think we will end this soon.

Turn 275
Washington sacks Warsaws Pearls! So I give them a battleship. Mostly to amuse myself watching it rampage through GWs wooden privateers. I hope it gets there fast.

Turn 276 - 279
Really just going through the motions. GW tells me Liz is planning a sneak attack. I think not before the end.
Some more deal renewals etc.
Jerusalem gets a road they wanted.

Warsaw was actually getting surrounded then our battleship turned up and they all ran away.

Turn 280

We get our pearls back from Warsaw. England staged a coup in Jerusalem and it was successful. How was that possible!

They had 1 influence and we had 130! That’s crap. I might leave that until right before the UN vote.

Turn 281 – Turn 282
We get a new SP. I go for cultural diplomacy in patronage for extra happiness.

OK 1 turn until the vote. I will save the game now, so you can all get the achievements if youlike. I forgot to do this last time, because Cathy finished the game for us faster than I expected.

I give gold to CSes so that we have over 100 influence in each. I buy back Jerusalem but since they are doing a project it only costs 1000. I spend an extra 500 to be sure.

Turn 283 1826 AD
Well that seals it. I voted for Ghandi.

I also saved after the win, I think this is for uploading to HoF purposes I guess, if we wanted to of course. The score is not amazing but that’s because we didn’t fight I think.

Nice! Well done Brichals and well done team. I'm impressed We got in under T300. I thought we were' going over for sure at one point!

Now to think about the next game....

It's not a bad time in the end. The tech snowballed a bit last 30-40 turns it seems.

I've been trying a few immortal games since the patch and it's definitely harder. I'm going back to emperor for more fun. This game was easier I think due to the islands and our civ choice. I think a random/random Immortal game could challenge us, or even a Deity game. Nobody's done a Deity game have they? (I mean a deity SG)

Thank you for finishing this off, Brichals! :)

If you bought the GEng the turn before UN, yes we can save a turn. We can bulb as we choose, even 2 in a turn. But that no worries, pretty good date for a teamgame?

Thanks Optional, for having us. And thanks team for having me.

That traitor of a George Washington!!! Voting for Darius in the end, after all we've done for him!!!
I'm not surprised about Liz' vote. In Civ III you could abstain, and civs often did that if nobody had been nice to them. We've been nicer to Liz than anybody else on the map.
Personally I would have voted for her. Not for any pragmatic reason, but I think we benefited from her play. She was dominant on the map, but no challenge for a diplo win.

Good last report and well played.
Happy new year's eve if you still catch this post in time!!! :)

GG all! I let a few days slip away from me on the New Year weekend... I see we did quite well again though. I played this game at the same time on my own and didn't do this well. GW back-stabbed me and I spent the whole game fighting him (he was the run-away, not Liz) and Oda. I could have won a domination victory by t282, but not by diplomacy.

I think Optional's emphasis on expansion was important, and so was our restraint with regard to war (I jumped at the first opportunity in my game, which added about 30 turns to this finish time ). The biggest move, however, had to be getting Machu Picchu. I'm finding out more and more, that wonder is game-changer -- especially now that the AI buys units with every bit of spare gold they have.

Anyway, it was fun! I'll see you all in the next one!

Just want to say to you all that you write great reports. Really fun and educational for all lurkers.
