Vpr3- 5CC Babylon

Welcome aboard!

I think we might have discussed a Space Race initially. Right now that seems most feasible. We could still go for conquest, if we really want.

Lurker :salute: . ;) Welcome Keiji!

Sure seems like we're going to go for Space Race. We at one point had 20k as a sort of option depending on how space went but I don't think we talked much about it because the AIs got some key wonders and the 20k candidate city needed some doubled culture from 1000 years, at least that's why I thought we dropped it. Conquest could work, but I don't know if we can destroy 7 AIs this quickly considering that we have 5 cities to build units. Still possible, though.

It's probably best for Keiji to be at the top of the roster for time zone reasons, so now it's
Keiji- I'm not sure, would it be after bed_head7?
Kaiser Berger- I think planned to play today
viper275-
bed_head7- Potential swap, on deck.

Preturn- We looks good.

1230 AD

It might not last long, but we have coal via colony in old Germany.

I then get some iron from the Mayans, and the rails are laid.

Summary

You know things are going slow when three tiles being railroaded is the highlight of your turn set

Roster:
Keiji- On deck
Kaiser Berger- Just played
viper275
bed_head7- Up

Glad we can get some railroads going.

Perhaps we should pump out some more worker. Uruk has a very large food surplus. Large enough to pump out a worker every 2 turns I believe. The alternative is to go to war and get us some slaves. That would be fine by me too :)

I started shaving some workers off during my turns, so our labor situation should get better. We can take some off of other cities too, as we can always join them back in once we get Sanitation.

1250 AD (0) - MM some and get Electricity next turn and a couple extra gpt. Also able to drop a turn off the Military Academy.

1255 AD (1) - Science upped to get Sci. Method one turn before Military Acadamy, but if any railroading gets down they will probably finish the same turn.

IT - France demands Electricity. Yeah, right. But I really should have traded it as soon as we got it, oops. But they back down.

1260 AD (2) - Railroading allows us to use the mountain gold tile in Babylon without starvation, which dropped SM down to 10 turns. By the way, the worker groups were a bit screwed up when I found them. We had what amounted to 5.5 workers in one group, when another slave would have allowed one turn railroads (and now does). We picked up Nationalism, 562 gold and 55 per turn from the French. It takes 343 gold plus Electricity to pry Nationalism from Greece's hands. Rome would get it soon enough anyway, so give them Industrialization for Silks. Scientific Method now due in 8 at slight deficit. Of course, Ashur probably can't match that, so maybe I should drop research.

1265 AD (3) - Scientific Method in 7, Military Academy down to 10.

1270 AD (4) - Wealth switched to Factories, so gpt drops dramatically.

1275 AD (5) - Scientific Method in 5, Military Academy in 7.

1280 AD (6) - More railroading.

1285 AD (7) - Sell Hittites Industrialization for a bunch of luxuries and saltpeter. Should have done it sooner, but since we are at zero luxury tax and not exactly playing for score, it doesn't really matter. Reconnecting incense prompted the check, but we end up selling the incense to the Maya for 11gpt.

Recap: Universal Suffrage is prebuild for Hoover's Dam. We are now researching Sanitation, and we should learn Sanitation the same turn as we finish Theory of Evolution in Ashur (note to Keiji if he didn't realize Military Academy is ToE prebuild). With the railroading going on there, ToE could still drop a turn, I guess. If that is the case, up research on Sanitation to make sure we learn it the same turn as finishing ToE. I forgot to make the switch to ToE though.

Got it. So let me get this straight. We want to finish sanitation on the same turn as ToE so we can get two other techs. I take it we wan't to get atomic theory and electronics for our free techs?

Let's see if I can fit playing my turns in somewhere in between playing the world preview event of Guildwars :D.

Yep. Sounds good, considering we won't waste by getting Sanitation as a free tech and can get right to Hoover Dam, then use the Universal Sufferage prebuild to finish that. Edit: Now that I think about it, I don't see an advantage to free hydro plants in a few cities unless they aren't near fresh water. I think a few are like that so I still think we should try to get Hoover Dam.

Even more importantly, they give us a cheap improvement on the factory. Coal plants only work as long as we have a source of coal, and our coal colony might fall within Roman cultural borders sometime in the near future. Hoover's Dam guarantees us 100% production increase in all our cities once they all have factories, which way come to be untrue for coal plants. And we don't want to wait for super expensive solar plants. Plus, there is the advantage of denying it to the AI.

Pre-flight check:
Switch Ashur to ToE, ready in 9 same as sanitation, check.
I notice we have a lot of AC's loitering about. Do they really have
use in the industrial age? Upgrading pikemen will cost us 150 gold
each. A bit too expensive, will build newer units when our factories
complete.

1305 AD (1)
Completing RR's shaves of one turn of ToE. Increase research accordingly.

1310 AD (2)
1315 AD (3)
IBT
Hittites and France sign MPP.

1320 AD (4)
The french have replacable parts, we can't afford it though.

IBT
Rome and Greece sign MPP.

1325 AD (5)
1330 AD (6)
IBT
Ellipi factory -> riflemen.
The french start building ToE, yeah right ;P.

1335 AD (7)
Clearing the forest adds one turn to ToE, oh well.
Decrease research without increasing turns left.

IBT
Sanitation completes -> Atomic theory.
We lose our iron and Horses.

1340 AD (8)
Get back our supply of horses and iron for electricity.
Science to zero, we won't need it.

IBT
The romans declare on us!! They take our coal colony, kill
2 longbowmen and capture 2 trebuchets!
ToE completes we get Atomic Theory and Replacable Parts.

1345 AD (9)
We can now get replacable parts and 484 g from the French for atomic theory.
What to do against Rome, our forces are higly outdated while the Romans are
attacking with cavalry.

Our longbowmen sends a Roman cavalry runnning.
An AC gets killed by the redlined cavalry.
I send our army out, it kills both cavalry intruders.

IBT
Greece offers us an MPP and ROP for a mere 5gpt. I'd say we could use
the help, so I accept even though it may not be good conduct to make
deals in the last turn. France and Rome sign a trade embargo against us.

We lose one longbowman, Rome loses one cavalry. Greece declares on the Romans.
Akkad and Uruk complete their factories and switch to riflemen.

1350 AD (10)
Take out a Roman knight with our army.

1350-1400 Notes

Well, I disbanded our crusader army....in favor of a cavalry army, as we got another leader. I upgraded all trebs to cannons. We have stemmed the Roman advance, and even took the offensive, razing Frankfurt. This take a lot of pressure off us, as the Roman cavs can no longer directly attack our city from their territory. There is an incursion of a musket and a longbow by Babylon. It should be taken out when enough cannons can be freed up to weaken them. We have a modest cavalry force that makes for a nice mobile defense force. We have a little war weariness, but we're managing just fine. We should be able to hold off the Romans easily for the duration of our MPP with Greece. After its done, we can get peace, reestablish our coal colony and continue forth.

Nice. the German assault seems to have been stumped. I would say we should take out a few more of the Roman cities. No need to go easy on them, their empire is large enough as it is.

Just one question: why didn't you trade for replacable parts with the French? Surely infantry and artillery would have made it easier on us....

Preturn- Trade Atomic Theory to France for 431 gold, The Corporation, Espionage, and Replacable Parts. Use some of that gold (372 of it) and The Corporation to buy Communism from the Hittites. Not to revolt, but for Police Stations. Begin a hospital in Ashur, kill the musket and longbow in our territory, then hit enter.
1
Begin building some infantry. Upgrade a rifle and a pikeman. Move units to coal. Don't want to give up Electronics until the Hoover Dam is built, when it is I'll get Refining.
2
We have coal back!
4
Raze Leipzig and Nuremburg.
5
Waiting for a reasonable offer on Refining and Steel, even just one of them, from France. Blocking chokepoint so Greek rifle/settler pair can't get through.
7
IBT- Lose iron and horses. Ouch on the iron. Our backward friends, the Maya, are happy to share some iron and horses if we give them The Corporation. Now I can keep building railroads.
8
IBT- Uruk riots, hire an engineer.
9
Cancel deals with Greece, get Konigsberg, Naissus, and 20 gold from Rome for peace, abandon those cities of course.

We can now get Refining from the Hittites for Electronics and 236 gold, the only way we can get Refining at the moment. Not much else to do besides building lots of railroads and building improvements (keep in mind shields if we go for Space victory.)
