Vpr3- 5CC Babylon

i'm partially back. the virus is under partial control. don't slot me in. looks like y'all are doing fine.

Gaah! I am doing terrible at remembering this one. I am so very sorry. Unfortunately, it is too late to play tonight. I will play tomorrow, and I mean it! Even putting up a post it.

Built Intelligence Agency, established embassies with all we didn't have embassies with before, and tried to plant a spy in France and Hittites, but France one failed. We lost our coal colony to France, and we could trade for it with them our join Rome's war against France.

Unless I'm mistaking I'm up again. So make this a 'got it'.

Pre-flight check:
We're at peace with everyone again, too bad I would have liked to play
some war turns. We have more than 5000 gold :O but as far as I can see
not really anywhere to put it. We can't research very fast either though
so I'll leave it for now. Lastly, all but one of our cities are defended
by obsolete units, better change that.
Ellipi, wealth -> infantry.
Uruk, wealth -> infantry.

1505 AD (1)
Babylon, stock exchange -> military academy.
Akkad, police station -> infantry.
Ashur switch to wall street.
Get coal from the French for world map and 210g.

1510 AD (2)
Maya and French sign MA against Rome.
Ellipi, infantry -> wealth
Uruk, infantry -> wealth
Pollution at Uruk, but two French worker block us.
Upgrade pikeman at Babylon to infantry.

1515 AD (3)
Ashur, Wall street -> Battlefield Medicine
Buy steel from the Hittites for 3510g and world map.
Start researching combustion at 100 percent, due in 9.
Sell steel to the Mayans for 63g + 76 gpt + world map.

1520 AD (4)
Nothing much

1525 AD (5)
Greece gets dragged into the war against Rome too.
They ask us to join but we decline.

1530 AD (6)
Nothing much

1535 AD (7)
The mayans offer us an MPP for 1gpt. I decline because I don't want to get
dragged into any wars. I don't have much experience with MPP's so if any of
you have any tips about MPP's they would be welcome.

1540 AD (8)
Babylon, military academy -> wealth.
We lose our supply of iron and horses.
Get back iron and horses + 75g for steel from the Romans.

1545 AD (9)
Nothing much.

1550 AD (10)
Combustion -> Flight in 11

Kaiser Berger is up now. Admiral Kutzov will be slotted in as of Sunday, 6:00 PM EST.

Preturn- We look good

T4 1570

I'm feeling lucky, so I try a teal on the French. It works, and we get Flight a few turns early. I try to swing a deal with the Hittites, but out rep is apparently trashed froma broken deal with Germany. However, renotiating it through our peace treaty still works, as we get Mass Production for Flight, 342g and 85gpt. Motorized Transportation is due in 9 turns.

T9 1595

Both France and Hittites learn Motorized Transportation and go Modern.

Summary

Hitties are now at war with the Mayans. We get MT next turn. We can't make much of a UN prebuild, as our best production city only takes 4 turns to finish our palace. I have started building a defensive line on our southern border, just in case France gets a bit curious.

To: National Command Authority
From: Joint Chiefs of Staff
Subject: National Intelligence and Threat Study

Unless the political leadership continues to ban aircraft on moral grounds, we recommend that an air fleet of 20 bombers be assembled after the construction of airports in Babylon and Ashur. This will require the dipolomatic corps to secure oil from the Hittites. A gpt deal is strongly recommended.

Due to excessive corruption at Uruk, we recommend redistribution of the National Police to increase efficiency in that city after reducing our labor force to foreign nationals only.

Commercial support for our military industrial complex will require commercial docks at Akkad and Elipi.

Our scientific research may be reduced to expand GNP and still return Motorized Transportation in a reasonable amount of time (20%, due in 4)

On foriegn soil, the Greeks continue to pursue unreasonable concessions from our nation. Their elimination should be considered after several years of military preparation. The Athens-Sparta corridor should be considered for military annexation to secure dyes to fuel additonal growth. A railroad to this area will be highly desirable after the Greek national identity is destroyed.

National intelligence expansion appears preferable to paying foreign powers for technology. With sufficient gold, it appears the time is ripe to deploy Mr. Bond and Mr. Powers.

With due consideration to our female citizens, it appears we will need to plan for Universal Sufferage in Ashur. A pre-build should be strongly considered after construction of the air force.

Finally, our reglious nature permits us the divine right to choose our government. We shall not fear extended war provided we have the correct allies.

Good thoughts, but I wanted science to be a big priority (we still going for space race?) Greece is still Industrial so I want them to sit around and take up space, staying behind in tech. Did build some things you mentioned.

Preturn- Little bit of MM, nothing major.
IBT- Hittites declare on Rome. Motorized Transportation==>Rocketry. Computers was the free tech. Coal is lost. No problem, all workable tiles are railroaded.
1
Build some research labs. Temporarily slower research because of less wealth builds.
4
Perhaps this a stupid/risky move of mine, but I change lux to science. I'll watch, but there should be no rioting and we need every bit of science we can get at this point. SETI Program prebuild in Ellipi. Uruk and Akkad need to be watched.
9
Nothing
IBT- A French spy is caught.

Summary: Rocketry in 5 turns. Nobody else has Modern Age techs. I wouldn't tech gift here, that means 1 more AI to keep up with. Prebuild is for the space ship (apollo program)

I do believe I am up.

I don't think tech gifting is such a bad idea, though it would have been more effective earlier on. Maybe, once we start on Space Flight, I'll get Greece into MA.

Yes, you are up.

Maybe you're right, Alex can't do much self research anyway.

Um, well. France beat us to Rocketry, so I gifted Greece in, but they were quite ungrateful. Anyway, we're working on Space Flight, with Palace prebuild in Uruk for Apollo. Ellipi is pretty shield poor, so Ashur will actually finish UN first, while Ellipi will build SETI. We have some gold, which is nice.

Oh, and we are at war with Rome. Oops. Misclicked into MPP with France. Hopefully won't cost us anything. But our rep is already pretty screwed up as it is, no gpt deals and the like.

Keiji up. Admiral on deck.

@bed_head7: Seems like a number of problems weren't your fault. Being at war with Rome is not a big deal, they're rather weak. Although I think we should cut down on shields dramatically at Ellipi so we can use the prebuild (SETI isn't too good there.) Palaces are cheap for some reason... is the prebuild going to work?

Actually, I think that Ellipi makes a decent spot for Ellipi. With Commercial Docks, they get 7 more gpt, and it isn't like any of our cities don't produce a decent amount of gpt. Our capital will be better, of course, with all those gold hills, and if we want to do some cities investigations and find out if we can get it, switching SETI would be fine. But it is too valuable a research boost for us to let someone else get it.

Most of our native workers were joined, so we just have one crew that can clear pollution in one turn on flat lands. That was to get Ashur up in pop for the most part. I think all of our tiles at this point are perfect as they are. We can't get any more shields out of our land then we are right now.

And palaces are cheaper the smaller the empire. But if Keiji clicks "What's the big picture" after we get Space Flight, goes to Uruk and switches to Apollo, it will work out fine. The prebuild wasn't even really necessary, as Apollo is only a small wonder, but I guess it will speed up the whole process a bit.
