Summary. I have dots where I think our next two cities should go. They'll have some slight overlap, but it isn't bad at all. After that, its a toss up between the Ivory spot and the flood plains. Persaonnly, I'd grab the Flood Plains, as that river will assist our research nicely. The Greeks have Iron Working now, but we can't hope to get it any time soon. I'd suggest putting a warrior on the choke and try to prevent the Germans from contacting the Greeks for as long as possible.

Got it. I like KB's dotmap, the dot on the hill should be a priority IMO.

Just to let you know, theres another source of fish NE of the tobacco. I had originally thought of the spot your suggested AK, but I thought being able to pull in the other fish and make room for another city my placements preferable.

since we're doing 5 cities, do we want to leave some space between cities for borders to fill in after 2-3 expansions? We'll have plenty of kulture

We definitely want some space between cities. Any overlap is a complete waste of room in a 5CC. Yeah, we want to use all the bonuses and get luxuries that we can lose, but that is not vitally important. What is vitally important is that we claim as much space as we absolutely, and reasonably, can. We should also get Iron Working and the Wheel as soon as possible, to make sure we at are at least able to build something other than Bowmen. So we should hold off on building cities four and five until we can secure those resources, unless it is completely unreasonable.

I totally agree that we should have space between our cities, bt I'm just letting us work with the territory we have. I'd much rather have 1-2 tiles overlap on good land then have no overlap with plains and desert cities.

Yes I agree with the gaps, but not too much. When the AI sets in for after the initial expansion phase, we might see quite a few demands. I think having our cities able to cover each other within 2 turns would benefit us extremely.

Okay, well I don't know about the terrain. All I can see is a few desert tiles in the southeast and a few plains in the southwest. I didn't know that was represenative of the whole region. But if we put two to the east, they are sharing two tiles, and there are only two chances for iron. I think the two turn between city max isn't a bad idea as a rough max for city placement. But we want to cover as much ground with our cities, and early cultural expansions, as we can. I don't think it would be a horrible thing to skip over a few of the bad tiles to the south to go farther if there is appealing land there. Let the AI settler in between. They'll just fall to our culture and we can let them join our empire - right before we kill them.

Okey Dokey. Depending on how much work I end up doing on an essay due Friday, I should post our progress tomorrow or Friday.

Should have played sooner. I don't know why I thought it would be all that time consuming. Anyway, I only played 7 turns to get back on intervals of 10.

Ellipi was founded on the hill during my turns. It hurt me, but I went ahead with the team's wishes. Nothing else worth noting happened.

I would suggest that we found our fifth city on the tile one northwest of ivory. SoZ would be of huge value in this game, much more so than a regular game where it is already probably overpowered. If we can project when we might get math, we might want to build near the ivory before the other grassland spot and make sure it is roaded to our capital, and then get a prebuild going.

im sorry i have to withdraw. My civ files have all been hacked in an online game. Sorry everyone. My comp barely runs AOL right now.

Sorry to see you go. Get back soon. I can empathize - I had to reload windows this past July.

got it

EDIT: yes, i am le complete idiot. I somehow downloaded and played the wrong save. Actually, I should flip with the next person; I know too much (@ all - get up off the floor and stop laughing) :crazyeye:

Sorry BigNHuge, I liked having you in Vpr2 and this game. What have I had trouble with... the monitor (computer screen) stopped working a while ago.

@AK: Sure? If you really know too much, KB is up and I'm on deck. And fortunately, I couldn't have typed this message while on the floor laughing. ;)

Preturn-good

I'll just give major events.

1700 BC

Buy writing from Germany for all our gold and 2gpt. Sell it to Greece for Iron Working. As one might figure, there is no iron near us. Research set to Philosophy at 60%. It'll be 26 turns, but we might pull it off.

1525

We meet Rome. They are in the same tech situation as our neighbors.

Summary

Not much to do in these turns. There is a Frech warrior parked next to Babylon. It might attack next turn, but thats just a guess.
