Vpr4-The Golden Horde

Pre-flight: I don't have a sense of overall objective except to stay alive. No changes.

860: Use the Khan to build another army to send south. Plant Altanbulag and Choybalsan.

IT: Peace with Monte for PP and 100g

870: Pi-Ramses kaput

880: Pithom kaput. Plant Saynshand, Modelgovi, Ondorhan

890: Ask Cathy to leave, she declares. Peace with Ragnor for 27g + 4 gpt.

900: Ask Otto to leave, he does.

910: Brennus departs upon request.

IT: losing pikes on mountains to Russian horses!

920: Hittites declare upon request to leave. Plant Dzuumod. Emir kaput.

930: Ahhiyawa kaput.

940: Russians incoming near Uleanjirem. Plant Nalayh. Emir kaput.

950: Poor note taking.

Summary: Move settlers north into former Hittite areas. Still at war with Cleo and Kathy. I had to divert from Egypt to handle the Russian pre-cossacks. Need to move some workers back to the core and rework some tiles so we can get more than one city doing 20spt. Peeps are happy. We're doing no research at this time.

Done...
didnt take much note...
Wasnt very careful on production, just razed as many cities as possible.
Lost Horseman army, got 2 new ones (put 3 keshiks in each for now).
German down to one city (actually they refounded so gots lots of free unit near hot spot, thats one place to watch, might wanna hurry a couple things)
Celts down to 5, losing 3? next turn.
Egypt has 3, russian has gotten a dent.

I fell backward a bit on resettling, but I find if youre at war with almost everyone, you can just kill the settlers :)
Anyway feel free to change the whole production and rush things, I havnt watched that much so were at 3k gold now.
Lots of ppl want peace, try to get techs, specially bottom tree if possible
Chemistry has been available for about 5 turns so they might have metallurgy but probably not yet.

I'm being too lazy on the roster. Is it (remember plarq's swap):

Mongolia, 1050AD

First, open the missing embassies with Aztecs (Tenochtitlan is next to a volcano :D; all resources ) and Egypt (nothing).
As expected, Egypt is at war with Germany (Bremen was founded within Egyptian borders).

I’m pretty upset to found almost any city undefended. I did indeed check the preferences if “Show units over cities” was disabled…
I’d need peace with Germany since they could easily grab 3 cities; the problem is, they do not want to talk to us. We are at war with the Vikings, and our entire coastline is open? Also, almost our entire attack forces are redlined and uncovered.

Such a set-up is not appropriate for a SG.
I’ll need my entire turnset to fix that mess.

Inherited: Burn lots of cash to rush regular Keshiks. Our FP city doesn’t have a Market. Size 3 tundra towns are building Markets instead. We’re building Settlers in semi-productive cities all over the place that could be really useful with CHs. We’re mining in the corrupted hellholes.

Enter.
Waste a lot of chopped shields, another :nono:. Loose some uncovered Slaves and a Treb to Celts.
Celtic capital (Verulanum) completes Smith’s.

Turn 1: 1060AD
Retake our Trebs (have to autoraze a newly founded Celtic city for that). Raze Verulanum with the MoM and Smith’s (a Treb and 7 Slaves). Raze the next capital of Eburacum, but only because we have the units there already. I really fail to see the use of all those unclaimed lands. Those attacks are pointless unless our Settlers are already in place. We’re only making the Aztecs stronger.
Newly rushed units kill 3 German Archers.

Kill a redlined Hittite Pike, and get another MGL.
Make peace with Hittites for a 975gp discount on Chemistry.
Make peace with Celts for Nav, Economy, WM and 312gp.
Nobody knows Metallurgy, so I form another Keshik Army.
WTH – about 10 units on goto :gripe:.
Start Banks in our core. We have easily enough units, if only they have time to heal.

Hire a bunch of Scientists, and turn on research; Met in 11.
IBT:
Yeah great, loose a Slave and Keshik that were on goto.

Turn 2: 1070AD
We have a lot of unimproved tiles in our core; run back lots of Slaves. Join native Workers.
IBT: That’s what you get when you overexpand without need. Loose a town to a Russians Knight.

Turn 3: 1080AD
Kill a few Russians. Still nowhere near sufficient healthy forces in that area.
IBT: More losses to Russia.

Turn 4: 1090AD
Aztecs keep violating our borders with ships, but I didn’t get the “Retreat or declare” option so far.

Turn 5: 1100AD
Retreat from Russia. Aztecs may steal our Incense soon.
IBT:
Make peace with Ragnar for small change, don’t want to see Berserks.
Get 6 Palace expansions.

Turn 6: 1110AD
Finish off the Germans.

Turn 7: 1120AD
Zzzz…
Physics is known. Metallurgy not, we need 3 more turns.

Turn 8: 1130AD
The Aztec Settler combo near our Incense was so undecided about the best spot, I did manage to ship a Settler of ours there in time

Turn 9: 1140AD
We are indeed first to Metallurgy. Get Physics, and some cash. Gift it to Ragnar :D. Oops, your Great Wall doesn’t work anymore? I’m terribly sorry…

Turn 10: 1150AD
Demand Ragnar to move, and he tells me “There will be no raids today. Maybe some other time.”

NOTES:
*Settlers are in the Caravel in the E, and another one (to land on the Silks later) in the W; active, so you’ll notice them.
*Russia is a major pita; I have two Keshik Armies there to pillage their resources.
*Please try to employ proper logistics. I know, Keshik Armies cut through Spear defences like nothing – but without Settlers at hand, this also gains us nothing.
*Peace with Egypt is about to expire; may as well remove Cleo from the game.
*Kept our scientist on MT; I’d really like the MilAc (in Bishkek).

Over to the next better barbarian.

el filet is up
I'm on deck

Nice trades Doc.

:goodjob: nice trades

move some workers back to the core and rework some tiles so we can get more than one city doing 20spt.

I reiterate my request

Nice set. AK got the roster right.

One small problem.

You may never pay for peace (a peace treaty must either be straight-up or the opponent gives a concession to you. A deal where a tech costs 20 gpt normally and you pay 10 gpt for that tech as part of a peace treaty is fine).

No need to replay or something like that, just so we know (unless you meant that he payed us, if so I apologize.)

I admit that I played very loosely and admitted that.
But, to my defense, the game seemed way past won in my opinion even when I got it.
We were going forward in all directions, everybody was being beat up, and we were strong enough to war on everybody, stopping only to peace for techs and cities...

Let me react to some of your points :
The German situation as I said, was that I killed their last city forgot a settler so they spawned tons of units in the middle of nowhere.
In any case, I dont see how the German could grab 3 cities.
If I remember correctly, they could only attack one with maybe one unit on the opening turn.

I dont really see how it makes the Aztec stronger.
They only built one city during my 10 turn, on the last turn I believe, and I would have declared on them soon.
In fact I totally agree that resettling land was very important at an earlier point in the game, but at this point, its actually quicker to just declare on whoever sends a settler, if any.

Anyway of course I could have payed more attention to MM everything, but IMO the game was already in the cleanup phase...
If you look at the replay, you will see that they are NOT founding any cities during my turn, because if they are about to I just declare and kick their ass, so nobody is getting stronger.

Again, all your advice is very true, and I guess since this is a SG I should play with very high standard, so Im sorry if it felt like I just got rid of my turn...

LulThyme, the problem is that this game is not won yet. A couple of Berserks, or enough Russian Knights could easily reduce us to our core.
The AI has Caravells, they drop a Settler on any open tile in no time. The lack of cities with Barracks to heal fast enough, and ships to shuttle Settlers/Defenders to critical places (Incense).
In this case, such an overextenting approach delays our victory big time. We will win, no doubt. The resource-free Celts, Egypt or Germany could be dealt with by Keshiks easily.
But Russia has a good production, and Knights plus Muskets.

The Germans - true, they had only 3 Archers. But we had 3 cities there, a redlined Keshik and a 4/5HP MDI. My problem wasn't so much the lack of units (that's what we have 3k gold for), but the lack of Barracks. I hate flushing down gp for regular units.

We have only 22% land so far, and Aztecs are not much behind in power. I'd have no problems with your set if we'd have like 40%, and only to mob up what's left. But we're far away from that :).

Viper: Of course it was Ragnar who paid small change. All he had, but that was like 10gp and his WM.

Well I dont know, I declared war on russia a couple of turns before the end of my turns, and they were falling pretty quickly, and were about to start disconnecting their ressources...

Changing all cities building units without barracks to barracks build was also the first thing I did in my turn...

Don't worry, I knew I totally mismanaged our home, it just seemed to me (and still does) that it was mop-up time.

As I said earlier, I guess I should hold myself to higher standard when sharing SGs, so Im sorry.
