VQ-09 Alg Ore's Exploit

First order of business is converting an unused mine in kwaDukuza into a windmill for some growth and extra production. In the meantime I'm starving it for some extra hammers.

Only 8691 turns left on Fission .

We take a single currency vote (I say yes). It gets up and Fission drops to 4345 turns .

Ulundi grows and has an unhappy face so I cancel our sheep for 14gpt to Louis for a sheep for silk trade.

Emacipation vote. Not sure what the variant says about this so I abstain even though I want to vote yes. The yays have it! Who needs Democracy heh ;). Fission down to 619 .

Huayana cancels our defensive pact, which gives me a few flutters until it appears that he has declared on Wang Kon.

Mansu and Alexander complete Apollo same turn.

Apollo in 8, Internet in 11.

And that is that. Still think we're all right to win this. Gandhi has no new parts built and until Al tells us all, we won't know how much of a tech lead he has.

Sorry about the brevity and lack of piccies but not that much happened.

Fission down to 619 .
probably some scientists are around (in our Oxford University city, just east of the capitol)... Fire them... Alg does not want us researching anything after FO...

I was too starving allready to speed the build along... didnt think about the Windmill tho... :goodjob:

My only concern wtih us not researching anything is that in order to win the space race... we need two civs to have researched the needed techs for all parts. If Ghandi is as far ahead on techs as I fear... well we might be busy doing nothing as he launches!

It's too bad you can't ask a un-vassaled AI to research something.

Lurker's comment:
AI researches Fusion last, right? So are you guaranteed a loss until those "harsher measures"?

The attic was dark, except for the green eerie glow from the screen that provided a glimpse on the focused faces of the two teenagers ...

"Icy, quick, hand me that list of passwords you got from the rubish bin outside the bank, will you?"

"How many times must I tell you: my handle is IceLord, not Icy!"

"just pass me that list! And what the heck are your groups of worker programs doing, sleeping?"

"Well ... they have nothing better to do until you bring down that firewall ..."

"Nothing better to do??? In fact, I think we have not enough of them! Duplicate more of those programs! And get those existing programs to start creating routes! Or chop down those irritating boards! Do something! anything! Better than nothing!"

<OOC: workers are idling? We need to road the forests, so that we can easily rail them later. Or chop trees for Internet and in preparation for chain farming. In fact, I think we have not enough workers. I start building some more.>

"alright, alright ...."

"Now, this is what I need. Here are the 5 routers I targetted ... you need make sure all the switcheds around it connected ..."

<OOC: these are the 5 most productive cities>

"Ok. hey, look at this, Huayna is now CEO of the Telecom Corps."

vq9-AD1924-UNSec.jpg

"So? As long as he don't put up more security measures, I don't care who is the CEO. I need to make sure those exploits and Trojan horses we have carefully planted over the past months are still workable."

"No worry, his latest recommendation for network security upgrade did not pass the board."

vq9-AD1928-unisuff-fails.jpg

"Good."

"Hmm ... I got an email from Alex. He is asking us to give him one of our worm-distribution software. Shall we?"

"Ok, let him have it. We have no further use of it anyway. Just remind him he owe us one, and we would count on him to repay us when the time arrives."

vq9-AD1926-Alex-trade.jpg

<OOC: gifted Alex the tech when he asked, making him friendly. I immediately sieze the opportubity and get him to sign a defensive pact.>

"Damned!"

"What now?"

"Of-all things, my botnets turned up a lsit of passwords."

"And why is taht a bad thing?"

"Well, we have the same list of passwords last week! I bet half of them are expired."

vq9-AD1926-artists.jpg

<OOC: sh!ty luck, popping another artists!!!>

"Nevermind, some people rotate their passwords, so those may be useful in the future."

"Hey, look at this! The Ap Program is now operative!"

vq9-AD1928-apollo.jpg

"shh ... I am about to make a break through! Look at this, the sendmail program uses a buffer of only 128kB. So if I craft an email of 156KB, the extra 28kB will overwrite the exection memory with root privileges ... now if I put my latest worm into the last 28kB .... heh heh ... Voila! ... and God says 'Let There Be Light!'"

vq9-AD1929-internet.jpg

"WE ARE CONNECTED THROUGH! THE FIREWALL IS DOWN!"

"Woohoo! Party time!"

A whopping 32 techs:

vq9-AD1929-techs-learnt.jpg

I got the Internet 3 turns earlier with 2 chops on the forests marked "Farm".

we got coal and 3 aluminuim ... unfortunately, only the coal is found in a mine ... the aluminiums are not even found on a roaded hills. I have 3 workers standing on one of them at the end of my turns.

vq9-AD1929-resources.jpg

Cities building casings and other space parts after apollo was in were immediately switch to factories (e have to give some time for the aluminium to come on line anyway), and some workers are starting to rail forests.

I revolted to Bureaucracy, State Property (for workshops and mills, start building them) and Free Religion. That is a 2 turns anarchy, so I am sorry, but the next player will inherit an empire in turmoil.

We, unfortunately, do not have all the reuqired techs. In fact, 5 are missing.

vq9-AD1930-tech-missing.jpg

We need to build scotland yard to access Gandhi's space race status. I suggest bribing or friends into a war with Gandhi (once Korea is history, of-course).

I think we ruled a page or so ago that it is not wize to research anymore as we want to not risk upsetting the great Alg.

Can we buy ourselves to a better building economy, i.e. buy Factories and 3GD (if not yet build, which seems unlikely)? We have money to burn anyway...

Sorry all! I totally space on the auto Maquis skip.

Played:

I didn't revolt to it, but we should probably be in UniSuff right? If only to use our massive bankroll for something.

The following Casings were built during my 10 years:
HC - 4
Alex - 2
Wang - 4
Mansa - 2
KK - 4
Louis - 2

Ghandi built Thrusters (x2), Docking Bay, and Cockpit

The only two cities (for us) that can complete the space elevator are our northeastern most pair - with hammers of 1 and 10 currently... Dunno if US would let us buy the Elevator tho.

The Internet taught us Fission during my turns.

I hooked up numerous resources (aluminum being the primary), upgraded our navy (so we can ship spies over faster), began the railroading of any mine or lumbermill in reach, and followed the signed farming.

Foreign Trade Routes passed in the UN and Environmentalism failed. HC was relected.

I bought Louis into the war with Wang (lost our DP with him tho) and paid HC to stop trading with Ghandi. No one was making any progress on Wang since he's not on the same landmass with anyone except Ghandi and we all know how good the AI is with amphibious assaults. Hoped more pressure would work. IF not, we need to pay for peace and then hope we can buy a war with Ghandi.

Scotland yard is building now.

The Save

First order of business Revolt (1 turn only :) ).
Next, start the Space Elevator
Change of plans for:
Khangela Veto the Forge start market
Akhetaten building a Library :crazyeye: Axe that plan, start Market
The following objects are bought
Ondini Worker (270), Factory (210)
Nodwenga Factory (1125 => From 0 hammers), Bank (420, with 35 gpt on return investment => 11 turns to profit)
Ulundi Hydro (288)
GunGUnLova Worker (270), Factory (183)
Nobamba Bank (426/35 gpt)
Bulawayo Factory (159)
Carib Factory (183)

Turn 2:

I buy a lot more stuff, coal plants mostly

Turn 5 I buy some Mech Inf to up our power/defences a little. Also upgrade load of Chariots to Gunships later on.

We are now all thru the techtree going into future techs.

We have some spies on their way to Gandhi who is still spaceship leader.

These builds were done during my set:
Casings:
HC
Louis
KK
Alex

Thrusters:
HC (3)
KK (3)

Cockpit:
HC
KK

In the space race we are looking like this:

Not in the best of shape, but not bad either I guess... considering we lost the elevator... I did buy us a fourth spy in Dukuza, but that shouldnt hurt production time on the Parts. Also I started farming Dukuza a bit and growing it...
It should get a couple of mines and some MM to shave a turn or 2 off the parts.

I tried looking in on leaders if they would declare on Gandhi, but "they just dont like us enough"
also Alex cancelled our defensive pact.... so we are now DP-less....

Maybe we need a spy on HC & KK as well, they are building those Space ship parts like there is no tomorrow.

The Save

Our first SS part is built first turn in. Count is 1-10 to Gandhi.

As we are in State Property I start converting lumbermills to workshops.

2nd turn in 3-10 to Gandhi.

I suceed in sabotageing Gandhi's engine.

OK that's better. Let it lie for the moment.

I keep the spy here, as if this stays the same, we beat him, as our last part is in 12:goodjob:. If only I could tell how everyone else is going.

4th turn in 6-10 to Gandhi.

My second attempt at the SS Engine in Delhi doesn't go so well but my third does .

Huayana takes over leadership of the SS race 6-11. Mad rush to get the spies over there.

10 turns are up and the score is now 7-12. I'm going to play this one out.

1961 - 9-12

1962 -

Thought I had timed my builds all well but not so. 2 turns we would have won.

Oh well. If I could have gotten any spies over there as well :smoke:

Officially, I'm going to blame the isolated start though!

Well it was real and it was fun. Thanks to you all. :goodjob:

I'd attach a replay file but it is not a valid extension for the upload system

2 turns? I blame ME! for not getting the Elevator, it fell to HC!

Seriously tho, had we revolted to US a few turns earlier... This one would have been in the bag. To bad, good thing we ended up alone on the Island and allready choose to go Internet... This made this game close... Had we not gone straight for the internet this game would have been a loss from the start.
