VQ Series Discussion thread

If that link is into the VQ red discussion thread.... maybe best to not post it here as it could flag someone (from VQ black) as being in the wrong topic...

Link is to a single post in this very thread, so nothing to worry about, bobrath.

If that link is into the VQ red discussion thread....

That's the point Armstrong hasn't posted there and was going to be cut as of Saturday Aug. 5. So I just spoke up as I would hate to see him miss out. I think the team will want to have him. Dot thanks for the input too btw really appreciate that. See we gotta take care of each other.

There's only one appropriate reply to your post, Cosmic.

 ;)

Started thinking today about a possible variant... Anyone know of a resource out there on the web that would tell me the shortest path (beaker cost and/or number of techs researched) to reach any given tech on the tree?

I know you can click on any tech and the research AI will pick a "shortest" path, but I'm not sure how that path is determined.

Warlords anyone?

Is there intrest in a vanilla Warlords SG?
 what did I miss?

I had been contemplating an SG before this week .... Siegionaries...
The team would only be allowed to build Settlers, Workers and Siege weapons. OK Maybe add in say 10 'regular' units to keep our Civ save from Barbs. Then only Siege weapons: Cats, Cannons and Artilery.

Goal: Domination.
Sub goal: Which promotions work well on seige weapons
Sub Goal2: Get a CR3, Combat 5, Drill 4, Barrage 2 Seige weapon
2+3+5 = 10xp CR3
7+9+11+13+15 (is that right?) = 45xp add Combat 5
17+19+21+23 = 80 xp add Drill 4
25+27 = 52 Add Barrage 2
Wow :crazyeye: 10+15+80+52 = 157xp :crazyeye:

This game would be an HOMAGE to these 2 catapults, which can now be upgraded to Canons... Tho I am a bit reluctant to do so...

I would definatly be up for a Warlords SG. Would we want it Vanilla? Or should we try to cook up some kind of Warlords-themed variant? Maybe every city must have your unique building in it, or we need to build as many military academies as possible?

Not sure how many people have Warlords... maybe too many are on "hiatus" for now?

I'm guessing vanilla (unless we do one of the scenarios) just to enjoy the pure SG/Warlords combination.

OK, so I've been percolating this idea for a bit and tried a few test games. Looking for singup from VQ vets first, and then I'll open it up to others.

Alg Ore's exploit (title pending)

Warlords or Vanilla
Game Settings up for discussion

A long, long time ago our forefather - Alg Ore - foretold that one day he would gift us with a wonderous invention that would teach us all the most important knowledge, if only we would be worthy of the gift. This invention would be named "In Ter Net" and we must be the first to obtain it.

If we are not working towards our forefather's goal, we are dishonoring him and must return to the path. We will build the Internet, however we will never self-research anything that does not contribute to building the Internet.
That's right, Animal Husbandry and Agriculture will never be researched (just to name two early techs). At the start of the game, I'll click on Fiber Optics and the list of highlighted techs will be posted. We can research them in any order desired, but *never* research anything not listed.
We can trade for techs, but may not receive a tech that is not on our path to the Internet.

Alg Ore was very wise, he told us that his invention would allow us to know much that others may alraedy know. It would be foolish to deny gifts from the world. As such:
We will accept any tech offered to us for free. We will not ask for techs tho.
We will always be happy to get any tech from a hut.
Great People are wonderful, but they may not be used to lightbulb techs off the path. They are true followers of Alg Ore and would never dream of going against his teachings.
Starting techs of our civ are fine (so you could pick a leader with agriculture as a starting tech to avoid that handicap). Depending on going Warlords vs. Original there are some fun and more difficult choices for leader.

All other aspects of civ are left as normal. Which victory condition we choose to pursue is up to the players in the game. However, no vicotyr can be obtained until we have acheived the In Ter Net.

re: your last paragraph...
Just make a restriction that you can't win before Internet or must win by UN/Space.

Signing up ... never built the Internet, time for me to experience and evaluate its usefulness.

I think you should open up the sign up ... not that many "VQ vets" are currently in action ... Maquis seems to have problem with his PC or is real busy, haven't heard eektor, oldbustedjorn, namliaM for some time now (granted they are blackies and I am reddy, but they disappeared from VQ08, so I doubt they are signing up for a new SG), ChrTh is obviously out of action ...

Nice link there Oz. I skimmed it and it was reasonably close to my test games, tho he did have some key differences.

Not winning until the Internet is popped... interesting. Makes sense. I'll update the original. I'll give another 24 hours for vq vets (and thread lurkers) to signup then I'll move it to the generic board.

I think I actually left a note in VQ08 ... Uhm, but I did have to drop from the game... My schedule was just to hectic for me to handle the extra SG over SGOTM, which is pretty intence.

But on the bright side, my schedule is letting up a bit. I even start a SP game last night.... I think I can join this Internet SG.
