VQ Series Discussion thread

Well, I did just post something in trash-talking... although not related to VQ06a/b. Just put a little zing on for the mods. ;)

Nicely done. :D ... maybe we should PM Conroe (of Team One), I've played a few games with him he'd probably want to join.

So what are we thinking? How about a Fractal map with a Random Civ? Obviously both teams would have the same starting point.

That's my thinking. I think Fractal/Random Civ is the way to go.

With both teams playing the same start, should we have some kind of SGOTM-rule that we can't read ahead in each other's threads?

I'm thinking the opposite: teams should be encouraged to visit the other thread and post snide remarks about the other team's decisions

For example

GreyFox did what? ... wow this place needs a point-and-laugh smiley!
See you at the finish line, suckers ... if you ever reach it after *that* bonehead move :p

:D

This sounds good. :goodjob: Looking forward to playing with the pros. Emperor aye so lots of "out of the box" thinking. Will try one on my own but probably get my A** kicked.

Ready and waiting Generals.

I mean with all that experience amongst you there are some Generals right or even Field Marshalls. "ubergruppenfuhrer" "hauptman"
Just love role playing. :crazyeye:

The only concern I have is giving an advantage to one team or the other early in the game by seeing the map before it is explored... to see where rivals are... where are the city spots...

Unless that's an advantage we need at the beginning in Emperor?? :mischief:

Well, if we wanted a slightly more wacky variant we could possibly reduce such advantages by having the teams swap games at the halfway point, i.e. team A takes over team B's save and vice versa (assuming that both teams survive that long...). Or is that too unreasonable? :mischief:

 We're not Team Chaotica, Scowler.

What we can do is that we can't look at the other thread until like 1 AD or maybe earlier. By then the games will be so different that we would get hardly any spoiler information by looking at the other thread.

How about this?

Maquis generates the first save for Team A (Team A being whatever team Maquis ends up on, since he is our fearless leader). Then for Team B, Maquis can take the starting position and do a Regenerate Map. I *think* that in that case, both teams will have the same Civs (including their own) but will play with different maps. Thus spoiler info isn't as useful.

... a totally different idea. :scan:

I think it might be fun and a lot of learning if we form two teams that will play from the same (identical) starting position. O.K. Nothing new so far.

But we'll stay in the same thread. Since the basic decisions will be most probably the same anyway it starts to get interesting when opinions on what to do next will diverge. But we'll be able to literally see how the games develop differently, when some choices diverge. And members of the other team would be allowed to comment on the strategic thoughts of the other ... but choices are made within each team. :mischief:

Curiously awaiting your comments, dot. :)

That would be way ugly to try to understand let alone play! Just imagine the headache for lurkers!

I'd prefer to just make VQ06 a miniscgotm

I agree that having both games going on in one thread would be too confusing... both teams can post in ether thread, so the comments can keep coming, wither way.
It should be pretty easy to keep track of seperate threads.

I also like the idea of both teams play the exact same save... I think it will be fun to see how different we end up starting from the same point.

The final suggestion I like is a GOTM-type spoiler for reading the other thread. I would think something simple like "Met all rivals on your landmass" (Fractal maps can get seperate continents, right?) would suffice. Once that happens, the discussion can open up...

Alternatively, we can make it a more educational instead of competitive relationship between both teams, so that means more of a training-days kind of SG, except that there is no "Sirian" nor "Sulla". Idea is both teams play the same save for one round, and we compare the progress of the two games thus far at the end of each round (perhaps with each team criticizing the other team's decision and :smoke:). Then we select the best game out of the two, rinse and repeat (sort of like the concurrent SGs).

Just throwing suggestions. I am happy enough to play however we decide to run VQ06.

@GreyFox: That doesn't sound very VQ if we do it that way. I'd prefer it to be competitive.

Agreed that talking at each turn seems.... slow. Maybe have talks at particular epochs.

I am up for up anything so let's play already.

Bobrath - I concur let's play a ways and then make comparisons. Even the first turn seems too early/cumbersome. VQ stands for very quick so that should be theme. Looking forward to trying "Emperor". I am still getting used to Monarch but have won and lost. It's all about the start spot I think.

OK, we're getting close... I'm waiting for confirmaition on a tenth person, but otherwise I have the rosters set. (I pulled the names out of my hat. Literally.)

Final details to come... soon.

Maquis

What else you got in that hat, any nice chicks OH YEA BABY
Sounds good wish I had a hat like that

@Maquis:

When setting up the roster ... put me to the end please, if possible.Notice the upcoming auto-skip-period in my sig. BTW, thanks for the "maintenance" ;).

I understand that my proposal might lead to too much talking. So go ahead with whatever you want - I'll follow nearly everything :).

Regards, .
