VQ02 - Predetermined City Placement

Here goes...

Um... I guess the PC ate my autolog? I only have the autolog from my last turnset... ugh. Well here's a manual log:

Turn 0: Things look good, but I don't like seeing cities working unimproved land! We'll need to get some more workers going soon.

Turn 1: Settler plops down in place. There's some wine already improved, so we're working that. Set build to library (I feel like oblesk is a waste this late, I'd rather get the 2 :culture: and +science.

Troops to the west are looking for Hatty's city. she must be right over that mountian range. Troops east are pulling back a bit from Vick's lands... let's leave her alone for now.

Turn 2: What's this I see? Oh Hatty, you wouldn't dare?? :nono:

settler7rj.jpg

Hmm... can we say free worker?? :thanx:

Turn 4: Where Is Thebes? Ah, there it is!! So I wonder how heavily defended it is?

easy4fr.jpg

One archer???

Turn 5: Something else interesting pops up to our west...

barbcity8xj.jpg

Turn 6: I finally get some troops to Thebes to mop up... er... maybe not...
thebes11kg.jpg

So she got a little extra help... and the barbs are knocking on her door also. That 60% culture is a *****! We do not have good odds, and only 2 troops there. Maybe I'll wait... Troops move so slow!!

Turn 8: Alphabet in. I check with everyone, and there's a lot of backfill we can do. I trade 2 for 4 with Cyrus, giving him Alpha and Meditation, and make one other trade of alpha with Fredrick (Sorry was relying on the autolog to tell us what we got!) So now, Gahndi is up Metal Casting (we're resarching it now) Vick and Washington both are up currency. None of them want to trade these. We're not as far behind as I had thought. We should be taking off after we get some cottages up and get the research flowing.

I also razed the barb town to the west. We're still getting lots of barb action everywhere.

Turn 10:So I still have not taken on Thebes yet... it's been a pain getting enough troops there, and Hatty's shored up her defenses a bit. There's a couple more Praets that will get there soon, so then we can wipe her out! Also, she's pulled 3 workers back into the city, which it wonderful for us! We need to get some improvements going!

And the save...

. We're not as far behind as I had thought.

Whew! I was actually a bit worried to. Good job getting us back tech wise. There's no big rush for Thebes, so waiting won't kill us. WW hasn't set in to bad yet so we should be ok.

I think now may be our golden opportunity to expand. Lets finish the tier (which may require a brief war with vicky), so that we have options for the next tier.

Good turns!

No, it's not raging barbs. It's 'welcome to Prince level' on a large map!

Ok, I am thinking of starting up VQ03 this weekend. I am going to wait for another time to go with the "human AI" idea. There's just too many variables to track in a succession game.

After staring at 1000 cows in our current game, here's the thought I had:

VQ03 - The Resource Search - We love those resources, varied resources. We want to get as many different ones as we can. In fact, this is our sole purpose for expansion.

Rules:

1) We cannot found a new city unless it gives us access to new resource (in the fat cross of course)

2) We do not trade away our resources. They are OURS!

3) If we see an AI has a resource we don't... will take it! We don't trade them gold for it, because they may want it back. Identify the source, and TAKE it. This means WAR. Along the same thought, we do not declare war indescriminately... we have to be provoked.

Any thoughts before I start? I am thinking Prince again, probably on a pangea or Terra map. Probably any old random leader.

If anyone doesn't want in, let me know. I'll open up the game to others that way.

Wow, you are definitely not short on ideas...

I want to join, because I like playing with this team, but we should let others in to enjoy the "VQ" experience

If everyone still wants to play, two of us could be alternates. We could still be involved to help keep the pace up, but would get others interested. I'll wait and see what happens.

Well the variety keeps things fresh... and provides a challenge.

Pretty soon I want to force a different victory condition, like cultural or diplomacy. I don't have much experience with either.

And, just to stay on topic.... here's the roster:

player 1: Maquis --- just played
player 2: bobrath --- Up
player 3: Greyfox --- on deck
player 4: eektor ---
player 5: oldbustedjorn ---

Nice turns Maquis. So many barbarians too.

Oh I was wondering how come in your SS the plains look green instead of a more brownish color in my game? I've seen this before I think it was in bobrath too and was wondering about it.

about VQ03 - Sounds interesting. I'll volunteer to relinquish my spot if someone wants to play(keep me as an alternate though or if no one else is interested I can still play). For now I want to keep my SG's to only two and concentrate on some SP games so I can be ready for next GOTM. After a dismal performance last time I could use the practice, but I've learned alot playing with you guys.

Its the BlueMarble package mod - doesn't affect gameplay, just appearance.

It can be found here.

Ok, we've removed Hatty and I've got forces ready to take out our next annoyance. Stay tuned!

Yes, 3 free workers (and our swordsman barely did it... lots of units to help him out tho).

Lots of barb action, and only one bad result when a sword attacked across the river into Ravenna and killed our double city def promoted archer!!! No worries since I had just moved a cat in and that saved the city (by being there).

Popped a GrProph during my turns and decided that we could use OR to boost our infra. All of our cites are confused... no one else is (or prolly will be) as that holy city bit the bullet. If someone can either a) convert some neighbors or b) get us a new religion, that would be huge in keeping angry neighbors off us.

I finished up Metal Casting and started Literature. The epics will help us in the coming phase. I almost went drama as we're going to be in culture war soon.

If there's anyway we can pull those gems on our east border... that would rock!

I made sure to hook as many resources up as possible. Made easier with 3 former egyptian workers.

User comment: Confused in all our cities. Too bad no other civ is confused too.

Saladin is next in line (imo). He's isolated, our forces were right next door, and no one else is on his religion. He's a friend to some, but it won't cause much heartburn. AND it will remove one more variable for us. (oh yeah and makes civs have to go farther if they want to settle our west.)

Here's your forces. The cat (and worker escort) are still a ways off, but this should make for a good start:
civ4screenshot00034pz.jpg

The rest of the world:
I've got two archers already fortified on the NE site and a settler is a few turns out from being done. Fredrick is already up there and his culture will make it a battle. I like that site too much to let it go uncontested tho. Get the culture cranking!
civ4screenshot00050mv.jpg

Standard demographics shot, we're not doing great, but we're not getting killed either. In fact our production is pretty respectable.
civ4screenshot00063qk.jpg

Well this is my got it post.

Do we want to go to war Saladin when he is pretty far from our cities and when we need to do war with Vicky to finish our tier?

I'll be able to play tonight or tomorrow afternoon. Would like some discussion on this before I play.

I would definitely fight those who are in our way for expansion. All killing saladin does for us is free up room for ghandi and other civs to expand - let the other AI's fight for the empty space that exist now (in fact, inciting wars is always good if possible). Let's start with Vicky so we can get to the next tier...

Now I feel silly! Ah well, it will take about 10 turns to bring our army marching back to our borders... That was part of my reasoning for sending them south. I see the value in not giving Ganhdi free growing room tho.

Learn and learn.

Ok, now I feel really silly. Don't know what I was :smoke: Sorry GreyFox almost skipped you there. I think I'm going to make sure I get enough sleep tonight. :D

No problem, eektor. You may as well has said that, because as you know, I almost always played with 12 hrs of the posting of the previous player's save due to my living in the opposite sid eof the world, so you mght as well have posted your got it :D

I see the collective mind doesn't want me to to go to war with Saladin? We shall see abt that ... But w edefinitely need to get our culture cranking, all simply eliminate freddie and Vickie ... :satan:

Got it , and playing ... (better do it fast before eektor decide to steal my game ) ....

Played my turnset ...

Executive Summary

Nothing much, just turning our war machine 180 degress around from the western forested land to the German plague.

From the Research Labs

"Hey dude, what's new?"

"We got Lit, sir!"

vq02-lit.jpg

"Good, what's next?"

"Recommend we head for Music, see if can get a Great Artist for free."

"Fine, make it so."

* A few years later ... *

"Sir, our spy reports that researching Music no longer yields a Great Artist."

"Damned! Someone must have beaten us to it ...
And you, you should have hasten our research! Its your Fault!
Guards! Execute this advisor!"

From the Gossip Monger

"Sir, rumor has it that we are listed in the most advance civ list!"

"Great, what are we?"

"Pathetic, sir"

:gripe:, "Pathetic???? What lies! Men! Execute the false-sayer!"

vq02-adv-civ.jpg

From the City Planners

"Sir, we are please to report that we founded Arretium!"

"Good, are we following the Great City Placement Plan as decreed by the our ancestors?"

"Opps ... I just followed the blue circle ... , sir!"

vq02-computer-hint.jpg

:gripe: "WHAT!?? Guards! Execute this city planner! and Raze that newly found city!"

"But we can't raze our own city, sir!"

:aargh: "Then gift it away, and then raze it!"

"But sir ..."

"DO AS I SAY! Incompetent fools!!!"

"But sir ... the city IS in accordance to the Great Placement Plan, sir!"

"Huh? :mischief: ... okay. Execute that planner anyway!"

-

And there ends the uneventful reign of GreyFox ... well, uneventful, apart from the execution of all his advisors ...
