Yes, Greyfox about the GS I wish I had done that but acted without thinking until after. A BIG D'OH.....Although if we speed up Education we might be able to get a few techs from everybody for it. We aren't that far from JC, he is only three techs ahead of us. (he has knights as he bragged about that, so probably more as I didn't see guilds there)

Oliphants  thats Olifant... or Olifanten for multiple....

What KK Couldnt throw in the measly little 20g?

Harbor may be nice for a little gold, do we have Courthouses allround?

AH=> Spices & culture... That makes sence....

The pre-chops were intended to go into Heroic Epic... Doesnt look like we build that :( Would be nice to have 100% bonus to building units :)

About the GS... a good 1600+ beakers is nothing to sneeze at. With an academy you get +50% of base beakers. If i.e. Paris makes 30 raw beakers that is 15 beakers, taking 110 turns just to break even... For now... Burning them on tech is still a viable option... a 110 turns !!! If you want to put an Academy in somewhere you want it early. As techs are "to cheap" (i.e. less than 1500 beakers) so you gain less from burning the GS and gain more from the Academy from having it longer....

Nice turns Cosmichail. I too was thinking about that jungle hill... Which is why I did agree to OBs with KK, *Lesson learned from SGOTM1* ;)

Holy moly I am up again? Right after the General? Geez... Guess I can take it tonight :) :goodjob:

The pre-chops were intended to go into Heroic Epic...

Gee did I miss that? I was wanting to get our commerce going somewhat to move education along and get some techs with it. We were bleeding coin again and I didn't want it dropping to like 20% again. Old Sarai's market will be done soon, so maybe Greyfox whips that one. We have a Courthouse in Besh/ and Corney Hills will soon follow. The rate at which Paris is popping out soldiers is pretty good. We could still chop in Paris or should we keep at least one plains forest for lumbermill. There is one more grass forest at Paris and more around Corney Hill. (wouldn't hurt to have a farm in Paris so we can work that other mine??)

Oliphants (combo dutch/english, just like my Dad he mixes up Friesian, English and Dutch)

Burning them on tech is still a viable option..

That makes me feel better as after I did that I thought crap I should have used him for an academy. I was hoping he would offer philosophy right there and then so more trades could be made. I think HC was the only one with it.

KK was pleased with us too when I declared and JC went to cautious but we didn't loose the ivory. JC even bought fish at 6 gpt after that. He does think we are too advanced.

Oh just wondering where did you want to build the Heroic Epic? Paris? (you probably mentioned that in another post)

Spoiler The Battle for Ning Hsia :

The Battle of Ning Hsia

Its the autumn of 1310 AD ...

"General, the troops are ready, Sir! Waiting for your command."

"What do you suppose we should do, Lietenant?"

"Standard warfare, sir. Catapults to disrupt their defenses, then followed by elephants charg, then Maceman and swordsman to follow through."

"Wrong, you dumbass! By my command, move them across the river, to the hill north of the city! That is a much better atatck position!"

So the troops moved, and 10 years (, 10 fu*king years to move one tile???) later, the army of the french finally secured the hill north of Ning Hsia ...

"General, the troops are ready, Sir! Waiting for your command."

"What do you suppose we should do, Lietenant?"

"Er ... look for a better position, Sir!"

"You dumbass! And spend another 10 years!!??? Get the catapults to tear down their defences!"

So for the next 10 years, Ning Hsia was bombarded with countless stones ...

"Sir, the enemy attempts to break siege!!!"

While defending, Swordsman defeats (2.88/6): Mongolian Catapult

"Damage report!"

"Minor imjuries across teh troops, sir!"

"Heal them. Meanwhil keep tearing thos defenses!"

So for the next 10 years, Ning Hsia was again bombarded with countless stones ... and then, finally, the liberalization of Ning Hsia commences ...

"What do you suppose we should do now that the defenses are completely crumbled, Lietenant?"

"Er ... sir, attack with the elephants, Sir!"

"You dumbass ... those are knights and pikemans we are attempting to break through! Orcered the catapults to charge first!"

And so the battle for Ning Hsia began ...

"Now that Nign Hsia has only one catapult in defense, what do you suppose we should do, Lietenant?"

"Kill them! Charge!"

"Wrong, you dumbass! Look, we are left with two healthy units. The rest are down with fatigue. You imagine we could hold the city?"

"Er ...."

"Order the troops to rest. We will take it 10 years later."

And so, the French recuperate for another 10 years ...

Actual turn report:

We learn Education in 1380 ...

vq06b-AD1380-edu.jpg

But ...

vq06b-AD1380-cyrus-trade.jpg

 ... no trade  ... and neither do HC nor JC ... damned!!!

---

I proceed to pillage both sources of irons for Mongols, costing us an Elephant and a Spear.

When pillaging, noticed his weakly defended city:

I suggest leave it alone. Too close to both Cyrus and JC. Let KK exile to that city for a while ... JC is bound to take him out.

---

I started the attack of Tabriz right at the end of my turnset after pulling down its defenses ....

vq06b-AD1400-tabriz-2.jpg

I stopped right here. There is only one cat in the city, but Karakorum is too near, Knights will be able to reach it in one turn. We are left with a spear and a mace with movement point. So, I suggest waiting one turn before trying to take the city (keep it, I say). There is a danger of KK pulling forces from Karakorum to reinforce Tabriz, but in my humble opinion, it will only weaken his forces at the other city, so well worth the risk.

Now, for Karakorum, it is insanely defended, but our armies are slowly convergibng over there for the epic battle of Karakorum. Here are the forces:

vq06b-AD1400-forces.jpg

Next person should beable to take it within his turnset. Good luck.

Congrats on taking Ning Hsia. That makes now 9 cities for us. That kind of sucks about Education however the AI is moving fast with their techs. Looked at the save and we are indeed looking to our 10th city and with enough troops to go after Karakorum. :wallbash: (wish I had started education first for trades, but we really needed maces too)

Enjoyed your spoiler for Ning Hsia. Those troops need a good general to keep them in line. Just like good ol "blood and guts". Hopefully by pillaging the sheep KK doesn't have access to horses anymore. So that leaves him with only two knights although we don't know what's in the coastal city. New Sarai?? That one be good too for us since it has clams. I agree too that we should keep Tabriz.

Way to go Greyfox.....

Oh, forget to mention, one of the city had avoid growth turned on by me I think, because its at happiness limit ... namliaM may want to check which city it is

Take your time playing this one ... we make one whole round with eektor skipped in less than 2 days. That is way over the warpspeed safety limit ... will tear a hole in the space-time continum you know ....

:goodjob: Yep, Ning-Hsia is great. Education? It feels like if we could have just gotten off to a little faster tech start we'd be in the trading game much more...

I'm worried about that giant stack in Karakorum. If we're not really careful moving our units together at once, it could pick off our whole invasion force piecemeal...

I noticed our power ranking & score is now higher than Khan's! We can beat at least 1 AI on Emperor!

Yes, I agree with razing Samarqand. However, I'm not so sure about exiling KK there. If WW isn't so bad and we have time, better to finish him off so we don't get "yearn to rejoin our homeland" and another -1 to relations from his friends.

Just a quick note and this has been mentioned before.

We should build the national epic in Besh and if we can add another specialist.

I realize this will pollute the gene pool however Nat. Epic would double those GPP.

will tear a hole in the space-time continum you know ....

I think it happened already as time is standing still now. Ok Jim we'll have to warp in reverse to change the effects. Bones give Spock his cathra back so he can do the calculations. The Wrath of The Mailman has been lost in a quantum singularity we need to retrieve it. Jim I am just a doctor damnit, calculations to reverse effects of space time continium completed. Ok this is too weird having Bones & Spock in one body.

Ok initiating warp to find "The Wrath of the Mailman".

Roster

GreyFox == finished 4th set == Caused a tear in the fabric of space
NamliaM == skip == Wrath of "The Mailman" (postponed)
Armstrong == UP == Will have to fight like Klingon warrior we are at war
Eektor == skip-- OoP: 2006.06.21~30
Cosmichail == on deck == Took Executor out for a cruise, jumped to another galaxy looking for Luke

NamliaM==hope everything is ok. We needed to slow down a bit anyways since we have a tear in fabric of space now. Took the Executor out to see what we could do to fix it.

So Armstrong you can proceed if you wish. Lord Vader stands "on deck" should you finish before the weekend. Of course anytime you want to take it NamliaM it's all yours. You can have the con then.

I will probably await my turn... If I am terribly lucky that will be tomorrow :( in which case I will need a skip again ....

Everything is OK, just a bit busy...
New Job
Marriage comming up
Friend in a wheel chair
Another friend getting kicked out of his home... (her actually)
Yet another desided to get a deforce just this weekend...
Inlaws...

Everything has gone crazy... Total crazy... But I hope to get more of a grip on live again after the marriage and possibly even more after getting the new job.

NamliaM,

Sounds like you could use a stiff drink. Seems like everything is coming at you all at once. New job can be exciting and marriage too is rewarding but can be nervewrecking organizing it all. Women can be fussy in that department. You sound like a good friend to be there for your friends in need. And inlaws......don't get me started on that.....

Certainly understand that life sometimes gets in the way of games. D'OH...

And we were looking so forward to Part I of "Wrath of The Mailman" (echoes) mailman, mailman........
