Shadowed this on the weekend. Was interesting. Managed to get steel from Liberalism and now have rifles and cannons ready to go while no other civ even has chemistry. Pacal is obvious target due to the quality of his cities, the fact that the military tech advantage is going to be available for longer against other civs and he is the main contender for a victory condition. Going for a quick win it might be worth hitting Alex first but this will make taking down Pacal much harder so if that gamble doesn't pay off it could be a long end game (and with all those cities Alex can probably keep us busy for a long time while Pacal is in major trouble as soon as just a couple of cities are gone). Privateers have slowed the AI's down and if I'm honest I don't think it will take long to finish this off. Got some really good luck towards the end of the round and had silver pop up near Paris and copper in the South East the turn after, couldn't believe it (even if it didn't make much of a difference to the actual round).
Looking at a VC from submitted saves, AP/UN looks tempting. If Alex is as backwards with everyone else as on my save it might be worth taking him on but the cultural situation with Pacal is the main threat I see for an AI victory and having his wodners and Holy Cities would be massive.
