WangKon (EC)

Hi all!

I played first round of last EC but I had to make a sudden trip and just could follow the new one a couple of days ago. I'm sorry for that. Next time I'll try to be more continuous in the play.
I was late with this EC game so I played some shadows. The last one I played was the BC1500-AD400 with the dualmaster save. I finished the french by 140BC. Maybe I built a too strong army, so I have now with 9 cities: 8warr, 7swords, 7axes.
I have a question for you. Would you have disbanded part of the the army in order to reduce the maintenance costs, may be the warriors? (I had a 21$ unit cost -handicap)

I attach the save here just in case you want to take a look.

Thanks in advance.

A very strange but funny round! :)

Spoiler :

P.S.: how is possible to link those damned horses?!?

Spoiler :
Fort. Kinda blows as it takes out a good production tile, but it appears to be the only way.

Would someone who has played already mind opening there save and let me know what turn # 1500 a.d. is please? :D
I don't want to check out anyone's save until I get a chance to play. Thanks, NG

Turn 320

I wish I could have played that round as fast as lymond answered my question. :)

Spoiler :
My plan was to get the techs needed for US-Free Speech-Emanc-Free Mkt-Free Religion and to hustle to Communism for the Kremlin to rush buy stuff and the GSpy to steal Democracy from Pacal. I planned to burn the GP in Seoul for a GA to ease the civic transition. Finished Edu and thought to get to Lib to take either PP or Nat. Dualmaster, how did you manage to get Democracy from Lib? The plan went ok until I tried to fire up the GAge and realized I would need 2 GP's. Argh!! So anarchy for 5 turns, it was ugly. Alex has been in WHEOOHRN for forever and and vacillating between Joao and me as worst enemy. Pacal is going cultural so at some point Lakahma will have to go down. I moved the capital to Paris as after the levees it will have better production and almost as many towns.

Spoiler :
On which tile exactly must the fort has to built???

Spoiler :
the horse tile...you may need a road on the tile too

also, a friendly grammar lesson for your sentence above:

1) The fort must be built on which tile exactly?

2) On which tile exactly must the fort be built?

But I've not understood yet....
building the fort on the horses tile, will destroy the pasture, won't?

Spoiler :
Yep, that's what I meant early when I said it ruins a good production tile, i.e., fort vs. pasture. I actually built a pasture first since it was quite a bit of a unique situation for me with that mountain in between. Realizing that it was not giving me the horse resource I remembered the fort trick and it worked. I think the deal with the fort (in BTS) is that it serves as a pseudo-port on the coast as long as it's within cultural borders while the pasture requires a direct link via road or river. In this case, having the horse resource is more important since we don't have any other horses and I want to build me a bunch o' knights.

If some how we gain horses via conquest later, I'll change it back to a pasture.

Your written English is actually pretty darn good for a second language and I always understand what you are trying to say. Grammar always seems the hardest part to master and really the only point of it is making it easier to read. I'm actually envious since I'm not strong in any second language like most Americans.

Ok, sorry for the OT

Not in the least:) The only reason I provided you a pointer or two is because of your sig. I think it's great that you are trying to fine tune your English.

Okay just finished my round.

Spoiler :

Okay at the start I whipped market places in most cities and then court houses a few turns later when viable. Also whipped a few UB for the science.

I missed the GG and GP. Doh. I traded for Alex and Spain for trade. +28 or so a turn? Eventually used GG to release HE.

Gave alex monarchy and he was quickly up to pleased. Pascal and Isabella are both at friendly. JoaII is annoyed as i stopped trading. Alex is on a war footing and pretty pissed off with JoaII.

Moved capital to orleans so I could build HE there. OU was not a top option as I figure we are far ahead tech wise for a early war. NE in old capital.

I have spread the hindu religion to all my main cities in case JoaII got a AP victory. (Spain is yet to get Hindu religion). In fact an Ap win is not off the table if wars go well as both Alex and Isabella would vote for us. I am still in Bud religion to keep others happy. Civics are currently making pascal and JoaII somewhat happy.

Overall the world seems quite friendly. I think a war with JoaII or Pascal is next.

Okay we will go ahead and vote up to Monday 6pm GMT. Its not about voting for the best save but the most interesting save going forward.

Remember you cant vote for your own save. Please vote for 3 saves. 1st = 3pt. 2nd = 2pts. 3rd= 1pts.

Here are the saves.

Glansmannen

Dualmaster was a shadow of his own save!

Lymond

pnp dredd

CBPE

Novin Green

Gumbolt

It wll be an interesting next round. As stated above we will close voting 6pm GMT Monday or when we have a clear winner.

If you need any discussion before you vote now would be the time. Understanding why people played the round or how to go forward would be interesting.

In fact if you are voting for the save how do you expect to win the game?

man, this forum has been slow the last couple of days...

Glansmannen - Research seems behind here. Should EPs be more focused. Diplo not great. War with Izzy. Could be interesting.

pnp dredd - Cities have reall grown. Oxford not far out in Pyong - I built it there too. No NE or Globe. Decent research. Military build-up nice. Lost Lib. Appears to have a plan here. The save looks geared up for a conquest or domination win. I would get a Globe city up soon though and farm over cottages in that city. I like Cheju for this but there are other options.(2nd place)

CBPE - Got 14th city up. I think Taejon needs more infra before Frig focus, but could be the plan. Lost Lib. War with Alex could be a problem or veddy eeenteresting. I'm not sure exactly where to take this one, but would look for peace with Alex asap and then gear up to take him down.I(3rd Place)

Novin Green - Good teching. Kremlin in works and US focus. Diplo questionable. Not sure about Free Speech at this point and may have waited to switch to US after building Kremlin. However, I like the plan here. Not sure about Paris cap switch. My thought here would be to go space or possibly UN. Could gear up to take out Pacal or Joao as the closest contenders, or at least to defend. (1st Place)

Gumbolt - Seems a little behind on tech. No Oxford. Not sure about Globe spot or cap switch. Paris could be a good production site. Should Namp'o be focused on commerce or a bank. Diplo pretty good. I had to stop trading with Izzy and you were stuck with Joao. Looks like gearing up for Waaah!

edit: based on Gumbolts recent post

Tech rate is probably slower than other saves as i didnt trade away techs to the AI. I always think the tech rate should be compared to the Ai on each game not compared to the other saves. For instances i may have rifles and the Ai dont where on other saves the Ai may already have rifles due to trades made.

In terms of the capital move. It will have +50% production and it is a coastal cap that will have HE. The production will be quite useful although i accept sea tiles are poor for production.

gotta dash out. I did wonder if the Ap route was still open if a conquest of JoaII or Pascal was made on my save. Interested on thoughts. I was happy to have all of the Ai at pleased or friendly.

You have a lot of spare units and the chance of being attack is limited really. By deleting excess units you can afford to move science slider up 10%.

Overall you are building markets when you need more workers!!! 8 workers for 7 cities with so much jungle is not enough! Its a bit too early for markets. court houses and civil service would be next on my list followed by optics route for astronomy.

Dont be afraid to chop away that forest. It will give you 2-3 workers quite quickly. You could run wealth in capital for a bit once this is done.

I am sure others will be able to give more advice.

My votes:

1st - Lymond: IMHO very very great round: good diplo sit (alex pleased, joao/pacal friendly), it seems you've achieved the tech leadership. Demo/Communism already IN, Kremlin in few turns. OU, NE and also Globe already built. 1 GP and 1 GS to use. Maybe I don't know if spending 2.250 for SoL to have 13 specialists (it will work only for island's cities) it's worthwile.

2nd - Norvin Green: the diplo sit is very similar to the mine (and Alex DoWed on me ). Anyway, already running US/Emancipation/SP. Kremlin and OU in progress (14 turns) but not NE, and, most of all, why not Moai yet with all of these coastal cities?!?

3rd Glansmannen: not a comfortable diplo sit (war with Izzy and Alex cautious). Anyway 1 turn from Democracy, OU/NE already built. Maybe the new cities are not well developed yet.

Gumbolt: good diplo sit (Alex pleased, Izzy/Pacal friendly). NE, HE and Globe in progress but not OU. You could have settled another one city and do some further good trade (sugar to Izzy for 11/gpt). Also, maybe adopting Free Market could help.

Pnp Dredd: Very good diplo sit (all friendly except Joao which is at war with Alex, good!) but it seems clearly a bit too behind in tech regarding other saves. You'll have soon OU but not NE. You could have settled another one city and do better trades (i.e: selling sugar to Alex for 20/gpt instead Izzy, Gems for 13/gpt and incense for fur with Pacal)

Wasn't Moai in place in the last save or two?
