So who else enjoys being suckered into being a beta tester? How many new games have we the gaming community paid to beta test? BF2 Cough cough. Now comes CIV IV. From the mighty Sid. Well like everyone else I am sure you thought this game was finished. I am sure you read Sid and said this game will rock no matter what.
Only to find that Sid has become the aging QB who left the game to late. Sid you should have left in your prime. This last attempt at greatness has done nothing but tarnished a great record.
I started playing civ and pirates on some very old machines way back in the day. I have enjoyed hours on end of gaming thanks to Sid. But this time Sid you robbed us all. You owe us all a very big "sorry, we messed up". Anything less is a slap in the face. Anything else is just telling us you will continue to put out this unfinished crap. Not caring what you are putting out. Thinking that just because it has Sids name on it we, the gaming community will continue to spend our hard earned money to beta test.
I say everyone should find an email and let them know we are sick of paying to beta test these games. Paying top dollar, at release, only to be suckered into a rushed to production unfinished game.
Boycott Sid, Boycott fireaxis, boycott take2 until this happens. Let them know that we will not continue to buy these unfinished products.
I hope all will follow. I hope everyone has had enough of this. I hope Sid and his companies see they errored. Step up to the plate, or we will.

Works fine for me too and the game is bloody brilliant, best of the Civ series in my opinion on the basis of my experiences to date. Hell bells, I've been playing straight for the last 6 hours in a brutal war with Mongolia the result of which is they got one city of mine, but it is surrounded by my culture and always will be. As the years past that city starved to size 1...

If you don't like it, most reputable shops will take the product back. But, I wish you luck sorting out the problems you've got with it as this is such a brilliant game

yah your right, I am sick of paying to beta test. BF2 set me off when I bought it and now civ iv has pushed me over the edge. I understand the basic question of how do we test for all these non standard gaming rigs. But come on, ati cardholders are just screwed here. I have nvidia and still get ctds on a gaming rig that does nothing but game. no other software installed.
you are right it is an excellent game, at least what little of it I have been able to play is just down right awesome. That in itself just steams me cause I bought it and now can not play it. Its like buying a christmas present for your self, one you want badly, wrapping it and setting it under the tree in november!!!!!! ARGH!!!!

Do I think a boycott will happen, no. Cause gamers are gamers and always want the latest and greatest of everything. So boycott, LOL, yah right. But the point is the gaming industry knows this. They pray it never changes. They know they can put out unfinished games and patch them later. I could go on for hours on this. Basically I am sick of it.

Man the bloody AI on "aggressive AI setting" is bloody damn good. I've been in 4 front wars and if not for the "peace exploit" I'd probably look like America now, it had like 9 cities, now it's only got 3. This is the bloody best AI for a CIV game since I & II. I'm pretty prone to say it's even better than II because I can have 18 civs on the map. Constantly at war, bloody damn great wargame now. I've always enjoyed CIV as a wargame even though I do play it to alpha centauri launch.

Beta testing? What's that? Polls show 3/4ths of the people that have bought it are having little to no issues, only 25% are showing issues, most of them are trivial or their computers fault for bad optimizations.

As for the original complaint, many of us consider a game to be in BETA by different standards. You obviously consider a game that has been released with numerous bugs still in BETA even though it is officailly not, understood, at least you have some original thinking. I however would consider it simply not up to par with my standards. The game to me is not incomplete(they shipped it and it operates so its complete) but that doesnt neccessariyl translate to good,but it is rather just buggy, parts of it arent working the way they are supposed to and thereofr it is not up to standards. So remember, its all about opinion.

What polls are those. I am just asking. I am just curious as to what fourms these are on, and do these numbers truly reflect all those who bought the game. Or did someone do some polling of those who bought the game and do not visit this forum.
Cause I am running a decent gaming rig. Can play everything I have here maxed out and have no probs.
p4 2.5 1gb ram two 300 gb sata drives over 200 gb free on c. xp pro sp2 256mb 5700. audigy 2 blah blah blah.
BF2 plays awesome after the patch to fix its mem leaks. But Civ IV even set to lowest levels still ctds for me.
So please just let me get this straight, you are saying that the game is perfect with no problems. Ignoring the 1000's of threads here posted by those that can not get the game to run or have ctd problems. That it must be the setup or the hardware. That it is not the game. I am just checking, cause after reading this forum and several others, I have found that not to be the case.
Sure some people are running some older systems, that will not run the game. But if you are running a decent system. With the following:

I detest the BF games (actually practically anything FPS turns me off) enjoyed Starcraft, but never understood the obsession, and mildly enjoyed the Warcraft games.....
I do however love Civ and always have...so I gues I'm the exception that proves the rule

I also enjoyed those games but love bf2 now that it is fixed. But like bf2, I should not have to pay to beta test someones product. I may sound like a broken record on this point. But when my machine exceeds the rec specs. I should be able to play for more then 20 min with out a lagging and ctd. Now they want my logs. This confirms my point. I paid to beta test this product.
