Want an easy way to play Civ V online? Say hello to Giant Multiplayer Robot! (GMR)

I don't know why the GMR steam logon website always says my login was incorrect when I use my iPhone safari to log onto GMR website. My login was fine when I use IE on PC. This thing happened when I updated to IOS 6 and it's been a while. The only time it works is when I cleared all history and memory and perhaps restarted iPhone, but just once. Anyone had similar problem?

Please keep us informed on this issue. I also have an iPhone that I use for alot of posts but have not moved to the new OS for fear of issues like this. Now that I know this I will not be updating the OS until I know the issue is solved or at least has a work around.

I have noticed that in the past but not recently, but I'll definitely try to troubleshoot it! Could you try disabling "Automatically download new saved game files" in the GMR client and see if that makes a difference?

Finally got around to doing this, we'll see how it goes over the next few days.

Recently I've been having to restart the client quite a bit. I've even got the 'error downloading save, see debug logs' message a couple times, and then restarted and redownloaded the save, and it's worked fine.

Okay so I just tried it since changing that setting. First time, it DLed the save for a long time ,then went to that error message (check debug logs and contact support). I just clicked on Play this turn again, and it worked fine, without restarting the client. Game name was Sail the Seven Seas, if that's of use.

Second game's turn loaded up first try, same session. Maybe it tends to happen with the first turn I launch? I always start the app new, because I'm almost always turning my computer on to do this. I'll keep taking notes on when / what is happening.

Minor thing: perhaps the link for increasing your game limit should not be shown, when you already have unlimited games? ;)

Another session, this time three different turns to play. First two loaded up fine. Third one, Speed game, did the very long (non) load time, then to the error. Retried the play turn now option, but it seemed to be taking overly long again so I closed and restarted the app. Then it worked fine.

Interesting, I wonder what variables contribute to that behavior. My gut feeling right now is it's somehow related to latency downloading the save files in conjunction with refreshing other data such as users and games.

edit: I'll add some additional logging and checks to the client application, maybe that will help shed some more light on this strange behavior.

I was thinking the same thing. Will make the change soon :)

Funny, cause I was wondering how much unlimited x2 would cost, but it didnt say that either.

Unlimited x2 makes you play two turns while everyone else only play one turn.

Act now and benefit from an added bonus: A free additional settler in every game! (Promotion only valid till Oct 31st.)

GMR: soon to be free-to-play!

Bw every time I log into GMR it treats my computer as a new computer or with a new browser and issues an authorisation code via steam. Yet it is still the same laptop. why is that?

Had? :p

Latest notes on what looks like a timing out error:

Last night, five turns to play. First was in Speed, and I got the error. Retried the play turn now option and it launched fine.

Second game launched fine.

Third game, same error. Tried again, it looked like it was taking overly long again, so I closed the app and restarted it. Then it launched fine. That was Sail the Seven Seas I believe.

Turns for the fourth and fifth games in my list launched fine.

Does it help knowing game names? Would links be better?

Hey Onan, I just published an update to the GMR client (version 1.0.0.87) that contains a new setting called "Log additional debug info". If you enable this it will write out to the debug log some additional information around downloading save files. Give it a shot and after you've encountered a problem with downloading the save files for some of your games email me the debug_logs.txt and I'll see if I can discern anything from it :)
