Want an easy way to play Civ V online? Say hello to Giant Multiplayer Robot! (GMR)

Oh man, this is weird. I just downloaded your turn for that game from the website and it loaded up just fine in CiV. Can I try emailing it to you and seeing if it works? That would help me identify whether the problem resides in GMR or CiV.

absolutely ... you have my e-mail from before?

Could you take a look at the game City-State Indulgence, mel?

I couldn't upload the file through the app, kept getting a error message. I tried uploading it manually and it seemed to work fine for now.
We've played pretty far into the game and the save is no doubt very big. Could this affect the upload perhaps? Maybe it can shed some light on recent problems.

Yeah that save file is pretty big (relative to most CiV safe files). I'm still trying to figure out exactly why some save files won't upload/download correctly from the GMR desktop app. It's certainly related to the new networking implementation I put in a couple weeks ago. It's sad, I make a change that fixes a lot of problems for some players but causes new problems for others. Thus is the nature of software :)

I know you're working hard on it, but I pretty much have gotten to the point that certain ones of my games are unplayable. I guess it should be okay though since I will likely die in them fairly quickly or get booted by the skip timer.

Consider reverting to the prior GMR version? These problems seem far more widespread and causing difficulties for most games now.

Sorry Islandia, I didn't realize it was getting so bad for you. I'll take Onan's suggestion and make an update to the GMR client that will allow you to use the old networking code. Hopefully that will work better for you.

Alright, for anyone having trouble loading save files that were downloaded via the GMR desktop application, update to the latest version of the application, go into the Settings dialog (click on your avatar in the top-right) and check the box for "Use legacy file transfer". Then restart the application.

This will cause the GMR client to send and receive save files to our server via our previous implementation which might work better for some users. If you haven't been experiencing any issues go ahead and leave the box un-checked as it should result in better performance :)

Still ctd in E's Peaceful 1 game, via all three methods (app, legacy, site). Not sure if E has reverted a full turn yet.

Hi,

first of all, I'd like to thank the creators of GMR for the great tools they're providing us.
I always wanted to start playing some multi-player games but the "same-turn-timer" formula is unappealing to me.
Looking forward to playing many fun games with/against fellow Civ fans.

So I went ahead and created my own game but in the process I managed to mess things up.

I wanted to have a G&K, DLCs + Mods game going with 4 AIs and 4 humans.
So I followed the instructions as shown on the GMR site and it went well but when I created the game, I set the difficulty level to Immortal so because of how GMR has to handle games with mods it endded up creating a game where all my human opponents were given the AI immortal bonuses! :crazyeye:

Is there a way to the game revert to the state just before I submitted the save game or do I have to drop it and start all over ?

Also is there a way to have a game going on GMR with Mods and DLCs with Immortal AIs ?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Yes, mod has to start with prince difficulty if in private game, public game will force prince difficulty for all. Unfortunately you have to start over, which I did previously.

Thanks for your quick reply.

I'm not sure I understand correctly though...
You're saying that it depends on whether the game is set to be public or private ?
The game I made is a public game.

I think the problem is because in order to make a GMR game with mods you need to first create a normal single player game and then send the save file to GMR which will modify it to set some of the AI player to be human player instead.

So you think my only option at this point is to abandon the game a create a new one ?

I think so, just tell the players and invite them to quickly rejoin. Takes 1-2 days to get back.

Okay using legacy file transfer method and I'm 3/5 on crash to desktop games now(Luciferkid's G&K Game, GMR Scenario Fall of Rome, Into the Smokey Skies). Not really sure what to do at this point, but if it's me holding up these games maybe I will just surrender.

EE do you mind reverting Fall of Rome again? I can't load it using either of the transfer methods.

Ok, no problem.

Reverting usually works. If reverting one or two turns does not work, revert a whole round of turns maybe?

Some games I just have to download and submit using website to work.

Mighty Mel! Can you look at this game for me?

Its been quite a while now, and I cannot finish my turn. I can load and play the game, but pressing *end turn* cause a CTD. We have reverted this game many time, we are now stuck in a previous turn that I was able to play the 1st time around, but now, the game cannot process my turn.

THx in advance!

Oh wow, this is a strange one indeed! I've been looking into it and I can't quite seem to figure out why it's crashing at the end of your turn. Even the original file submitted by DeathGOD crashes when you click "Next Turn". I'm afraid this might be a problem with CiV and thus not something we can easily fix. I'll continue looking into it and see what I can figure out!
