Warhammer fantasy units/graphics preview/development thread

Yep, it's not fun at all if it's too easy :)

Actually, I think I've "found" a way of doing that cloak - I've only thought of an idea (not tried it yet). But if it won't work, I'll do the one shown in the posted flc.

This is my first post in a few weeks, but I've been following your work still aaglo, great stuff! Hurrah for the Phoenix Guard! Hurrah for aaglo! Fancy trying your hand out at the elven magic users, perchance? ;)

Okay, here's a newest creation: Ogre ironfist :D

Now, he clearly has an ironfist. I think it's a kind of boxing glove made of iron - thus increasing the close combat stregth of ogres (yeah, like they need any more strenght  ). And he also has an oriental sword, since ogres are very good in using all kinds of weapons, since they can use almost anything as a weapon :)

So, what do you think? Suggestions on colouring & appearence are welcome :)

I like it, don't know anything about the warhammer ogres so I can't really give you any ideas on what changes may/might be needed.

Looks great. Some extra props (strap around arm, pieces of armor, boots, more interesting pants..) might come in handy though. Also, maybe add more rust to the glove to make it stand out more.

I think you should add more skin colour to it, less grey. Also the head could use some hair, and maybe a helmet, it looks a bit too animal too. Ogres actually looks a lot like humans.

Wow! I like the big fellow and I have a few sugestions:
- maybe some paint on his face- something like a tribal tatoo or some red runes;
- maybe make the sword look more like big cleaver;
- a skull attached to the sword would be cool.

I'm thorougly impressed. I've been eagerly awaiting you getting to the Ogres. :D Here's my suggestions, for what they're worth:

- I would suggest making the skin a little lighter, but keeping it's grayish hue. The modern Warhammer Ogres have a light-grayish skin.
- I think either the gut needs to be made bigger, or the gut-plate needs to be made smaller
- I don't know how tall the unit is in relation to the normal civ-units, but from what I've seen in Warhammer, Ogres seem at least as tall as a horse, maybe taller.
- It looks like it has an animal-like muzzle for its face. Ogres in WH have human-like faces, with many even possesing facial-hair - though none have hair on the top of their heads.
- I definately agree that warpaint of some sort would look good on his face and body - red or civ-color would be good.
- I think the sword looks perfect. The ironfist looks sweet too, my only suggestion would be to make the spikes a bit larger so that they're apparent at civ-scale and help the ironfist stand out as an actual weapon.

But it's looking pretty awesome overall. Out of curiosity, are there any other Ogre Kingdoms units you're planning on making??

Thanks for the comments everyone. Replies:
- I agree, that the head needs a bit of re-sculpting. It also needs earlobes. And maybe some facial hair
- I agree that the skin could be a bit lighter, maybe even have a yellowish hue to it.
- I'm not sure about the tribal tattoo, because that's a bit hard to do with pov-ray. I think I'll just skip that
- straps & rivets & uglystuff - I'll see what I can do ;)
- I think the sword is just what is should be like. Maybe the ironfist should be a bit bigger too - at least the spikes :) . And should the ironfist be painted in red /some other colour (instead of non-painted metal)?
- It'll be as tall as a horse (which was my point of reference in the first place :) )
- I think that the current gut-plate is just good in size - clearly visible and noticeable.

Also, making the head more human-like, it could be used as a samoan swordsman ;) :p j/k

About other ogres:
- leadbelcher (an ogre carrying a cannon barrel!)
- an irongut with a huge 2-hand weapon (I was thinking about a huge rock attached to a woodtrunk -type of sledgehammer-weapon)
- heavily armored (= helmet and shoulderplates) ogre bruiser (= tyrant)

Updated ogre preview:
- changed skin colour
- added some facial hair (moustache & sideburns :p )
- edited head (added earlobes - less animal/skull lookalikeness)
- recoloured & edited ironfist

Those are some crazy sideburns! :D

Well, I think it looks pretty sweet. My only critique would be that I liked the rust-and-metal coloring of the ironfist before. The unit definately looks cool, though

Well, maybe you could add some warpaint rather than a tribal tatoo. I thik it will add flavor to the unit.
Other than that the unit looks great and I changed my mind about the sword but I did't have time to say anything - I too think the sword looks good.

Hey, Lemmy got a headshave and way to much steroids! :crazyeye:

You're spoiling us rotten, Aaglo... :goodjob:
 Yeah, just add the wart!

I've an idea, would it be awefully silly if the ironfist had the original colour, but that the front of it was dripping with blood? :wow:

...and bad teeth... no wait, you don't have to :p

No, it's not an awful idea. I think it's great, see? :) (how about fidget, where he licks the blood in the fist :Puke: )

BTW, when I mentioned about the difficulties in adding tribal tattoos to the poor ogre - that was meant for all kinds of coloured images printed on the skin - not gonna happen (atleast without huge amount of quite pointless work) with pov-ray. :p

METAL!
I think it fits as a olog hai for LOTM too. :)

Minor comment on the bloody fist: it looks a little odd with the blood stopping so cleanly at the base of the spikes. Is it possible to make that interface look more organic?

Hmm I still think the skin is too grey.
