I've hunted through the other bug reports, but it seems everyone else has marginal cards or RAM, maybe mine are and I just don't know it. . .
I've been stuck playing standard maps on all low graphics settings, having killed all background processes and manually clearing the cache again. But inevitably, starting in the renaissance era, I start getting massive slowdowns and eventually the game locks up (end-of-turn, capturing cities, another civ capitulating, another civ offering permanent alliance, basically anything that chews memory.) I can reload after saves and a cold system restart, but half the time it won't load saves of only 350-400K. It never does CTD, but I halfway wish it would since I can't Ctrl+Alt+Del to get the Task Manager up about half the time. The audio also has a delightful stutter/chop, especially when Lenny pipes up. I had a few patch-related slowdowns in vanilla, but was able to easily fix those (my pagefile was minute at the time.) I'd post a savegame but I can't get around my bleeding firewall. The only mod I use is Smartmap, but it down't seem to matter if I take it out. . .
I tried the .ini fixes, no love. I also got that blasted static issue, but managed to fix that. Tried fresh graphics drivers, tried a few rollbacks, nothing. Upped my pagefile to 8G, nothing. BAH! www.srtest.com has me kicking this bloody thing's rear every way to Sunday, but I miss large/huge maps!!! (Not to mention actually finishing a game!) I can play everything else beautifully, dangit, but I want my Civ back!
