Warlords not updating XP for Great General

I got the Warlords Expansion loaded this past weekend and my son and I have been playing a game. We noticed though that the XP hasn't been incrementing even though we both have won battles and gained XP in the process. Has anyone else seen this or are we missing something?????

Are you sure you wern't just fighting barbs? The xp counter only goes up when fighing actual civs.

That must be it. I don't think we have actually fought any other civs yet. I wondered that last night. Thanks.
